Vinnie from Less Than Jake Writes Children's Book

Vinnie Fiorello, drummer/lyricist of Less Than Jake and founder of Paper and Plastick has announced the release of his first children's book. The book, entitled Sometimes Robots Like Being Robots, is due out June 12, 2009. Some details about the writing process were posted at Fiorello's blog:

It is a children's book functioning as an open letter to his first love, robots. Fascinated by the mechanical characters from an early age, a collection of them sit atop a tall shelf in his office, looming over him as he toils and schemes his next creative venture. As he has gotten older, the idea of robots has become a little deeper to him than the buzzes and beeps that originally caught his attention. The stories slid around in his head and out of his hands as he traveled from coast to coast. He quickly jotted them down on napkins and in notebooks. These stories are international, written in airplanes and scripted in bumpy taxis across the world.

It's not going to be a paper and plastick release, and he wouldn't be stupid enough to use that logo anyway.
Obviously it will be made kid friendly and the skull will be replaced with a baby's head and the knives will be made into machetes.

I'm pretty sure these just confirm that these aren't demos. I don't remember "Slurring the rhythms" having the lines, "this could be any day, this could be any year, this could be any stadium, this could be any festival, all that matters is our guarantee, making sure our riders clear, we pack up and head out on our tour bus".

Totally enjoying how it sounds. Stoked, Unsubstantiated is like the electric version found on SFS.

I also wish Cavalier Eternal wasn't on it. I know it was from these sessions but we've already got that EXACT SAME VERSION already.

I'm thinking this is the guy who played Look What Happened in Richmond with them last year and then said Vinnie tried to purposely fuck him up by changing tempos even though they always play it that way live. Mostly because he used the phrase "shitty drummer" that time as well.

Flipping through the samples, no kid in that book's target demographic is going to know what a record player or vinyl record is. And there is no need for the promotion of caffeine addiction and obesity in a childrens book. But it doesn't stop there.

THEN they unnecessarily turn it into some left wing propaganda machine by drawing some sort of vague metaphorical parallel between the needs of robots and the greed of our nation and the debatable justification for war ("Sometimes robots like being robots because the problems they have are only about how much oil they need...).

No thanks, keep your leftist political propaganda out of my children's books, Vinnie. This is absolutely ridiculous. Oh, and thanks for the nice skull & knives logo on the back. That's great.
