Rancid to release split with Dropkick Murphys

Rancid are apparently planning another split release in the style of their BYO Split Series Volume 3 project with NOFX. Though few details are currently available, the band will apparently be releasing a split with Dropkick Murphys.

The band discussed the project in a Recent Metromix interview.

This is exciting. I would imagine that DKM will probably keep away from the ska material, but I hope to be surprised. It would be fun to hear a cover of Time Bomb with bagpipes instead of organ.

good list.. i couldnt even begin to guess who would play what, but its hard to picture DKm doin who wouldve thought. i would replace that with 1998; i guess thats just my opinion. i do hope they pick more than 6 songs each tho.

I was gonna make my own list, but as I started to peruse the Murphys' catalog for songs, I realized that most all of them could make great songs for Rancid to cover.

I'm not so sure about the other way around. I'll leave it up to them.

i hope they do a 'cover each other's songs' thing...seriously though, greatest split-style ever.. i like new songs by two bands i like, but really, im all about hearing new interpretations by two bands' material.. the rancid/nofx split was awesome.. and id say, out of all my splits, its ranked #2 for most plays (AAA/Common Rider gets #1 only because i love those bands)

Last night I saw the Rancid/Rise Against show in Vancouver. I am choked to confirm that Rise Against is headlining and playing waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy longer than Rancid. The doors were at 7 and Rancid went on around 8:15 and played for maybe 45 minutes. The band sounded amazing like always, but the set was so short, that they didn't even get to play an encore!

If you're going to the show I won't spoil the order of the songs, but the Rancid setlist was:

That sucks indeed! The Rancid setlist doesn't include anything beyond the same ol' same ol'. Those songs read like a greatest hits album. They have so many to choose from, you'd think they would try to change it up a bit while throwing in a few crowd favorites.

Also, I thought they were co-headliners. I knew Rise Against would play last, but not longer. Oh well, I can't go to the Twin Cities show anyway (not that I would want to because it's at the worst venue ever).

Not sure why this is surprising or why you needed to confirm it. It was pretty obvious that even though it was a "co-headline," it was clearly a Rise Against tour.

The number of people who were "pissed" were probably outnumbered by the kids who'd never seen them before and went, "oh, I like this song! These guys are cool! I'll check them out again," which is at the end of the day, what really matters.
