Nathen Maxwell (Flogging Molly) releasing solo album

Nathen Maxwell of Flogging Molly has announced his first solo album. The record is titled White Rabbit and is due out August 18, 2009. Maxwell has contributed songs to Flogging Molly albums in years past, but things progressed differently when the band went into the studio to record Float, their most recent release, Nathen explained:

I played these songs for the band and our singer Dave [King] said, "Nate, you've got your own story and I really think you should record these songs,' Once I got his blessing I figured it'd be bad karma not to record and release them.

Maxwell teamed up with long time Flogging Molly producer Ted Hutt (The Gaslight Anthem, Chuck Ragan, Lucero, Bouncing Souls, Street Dogs). You can find two songs here.

strange, I was just thinking that Flogging Molly would be a lot better as a solo acoustic act that full band.

I like this. I've liked a majority of all these folk punk acoustic acts. I could only take Flogging Molly in small doses. I always felt like there songs dragged out a bit too long sometimes.

The White Rabbit in San Antonio is a cool venue but too slippery.

August 18th is the day after I turn 20. I went to a funeral today. Sucks. Wear a seatbelt. Don't drink and drive. Be safe.

That does suck.

As a side note - its really easy to say don't drink and drive now. Unfortunately, I'm sure you'll be dumb enough to do it after you turn 21.

I've been dumb enough to do it a few times but have had a friend follow me which is hardly a securing thing. I usually always get someone to drive me home. I've driven home drunk but never wasted. I don't see what could possibly possess someone to drive while completely wasted.

Not one of my proudest moments, and I try to get someone to drive me too, to bad we usually designate the driver that is always stoned..

Driving stoned is sooooooo different than driving drunk. I drive stoned 365 days a year. If anything, I'm more focused, and a lot more smooth behind the wheel. Drunk, I am a fucking mess. I stopped doing it after the second time (4 years ago).

Nah, driving stoned is a piece of cake. If you get in an accident stoned it'll probably be a fender bender in a parking lot, as opposed to driving drunk through a red light or something. It's only a problem if you're really tired and falling asleep, then being stoned will just make you more tired.

and yes, wear your fucking seatbelts people! It's such a stupid lazy thing to not do.
I don't know about other places but in TX you can get like a $200 ticket for not wearing one.

I really like the Irish punk sound, but I can only listen to two or three songs in a row, as they all sound exactly the same.

Also, my dream wedding is the video for "Walk Away" by DKM.

I think pre-Warriors Code DKM is pretty good. Their older stuff was more Oi! oriented and then you could even hear the progression with the newer vocalist up until Blackout!--which I think is a kickass cd. The Warrior Code and the Meanest of time find them setteling into their niche and becoming predictable and boring in their small sub genre.

Flogging Molly just beats the gimmick to death and unbearable.

I thought he was going to go with that Americana folk sound that Chuck Ragan, Tim Barry and others are doing now. But I was wrong. I liked it and hope the rest of the album is just as good.
