Green Day has posted the new video for their track, "21 Guns." The video was directed by Marc Webb, who is making his feature film directorial debut in July with (500) Days of Summer. The song comes from 21st Century Breakdown.

It's fucking fake. He either strained and did it once and then repeated it, or they digitally altered it. He has trouble reproducing it live. This shit sucks.

I couldn't make it a minute in. As soon as he went high on that "guns" I turned it off. Tre Cool looks like the most awkward person with makeup on. I can't tell if he is trying to smile or not.

It's a nice song. One of Armstrong's best recorded vocal performances. Including the falsetto. Reminds me of Ben Gibbard there.

The only thing I've ever heard from this record is "Know Your Enemy" when they played it live on Colbert. I deem that a rousing success [my not hearing any of it, not the song, which was unbearable]. Fuck this band.

It was actually a Fernandes Strat-copy. Yeah, I was really into them, back in the day.

Actually, I still play guitars that are Strat-shaped and mostly single coils because of the Green Day influence, and because that's what Matt Skiba used early in his career. I'm glad to see both guitarists from Gaslight are keeping the spirit alive, too. Almost everybody else in punk seems to play humbucker-ed Gibsons.

I guess it's a bit on the long side, I never really noticed. I'm not that big of a green day fan to begin with so if most of the elements of this song appeared elsewhere I probably either didn't notice or didn't care.

naturally the two worst songs on the album would be the singles... 5-6 of those other songs are actually pretty okay.. and 'peacemaker' is just about the best song i've heard in the last month...

I know I'm a fanboy, so that kinda DQ's me. Still, a couple things...

1) High note = falsetto, and a lot of great groups use it. Ted Leo springs immediately to mind.
2) If there's an auto-tune on this song, it's keeping him in tune and is not being used as an effect. I don't hear it at all vs. how he sings live (though you can use an auto-tune live, too).
3) This is a really good song. I like a lot of music that people on here would mock me endlessly for, so whatever. It's their weakest album, but there is some of it I really like.

And finally...
4) How would The Replacements have been treated if there was an internet during their later periods? Solo Paul Westerberg is every bit as wimpy pop as new Green Day, and I never hear anyone call him out on it.

This is where I'm at now that it's been awhile:

If you take out every ballad (What are there, like 7?) and leave the 11 other songs, Mix up the order, replace all the lyrics about Christian and Gloria with something more interesting....

You have a semi-decent Green Day album.

I think the biggest offenders on this album are the middling rock and pseudo-aggressive songs. A couple of the bands are some of the best songs. "Know Your Enemy" and "Christian's Inferno" are two of the worst. So very, very phoned in.

Jesus christ, I thought every band out there have figured out that the whole makeup/eyeliner thing is over and was never cool in the first place. Green day should do a tour with Aiden just to try to force this look down tween's throats. Billie Joe even sounds like a girl on this song.

OK, OK, we all knew this would be the next single. Let's move on to the next one now: Song of the Century/21st Century Breakdown? East Jesus Nowhere? The Static Age? I wish it was Peacemaker, but I'd also hoped that Scattered would be a single and that never panned out.
