In Memoriam: Samantha Jane Dorsett (Plan-it-X Records)

The dedicated fan community at Plan-It-X Records are reporting that label co-founder Samantha Jane Dorsett has passed away. Details are sparse at this time, but Sam recently suffered a 50-foot fall in Berkeley which resulted in broken bones and extensive spinal injuries. Earlier this year the Plan-It-X community released a benefit tribute to raise money for her recovery.

Dorsett (the "Sam" from the label's slogan "In Sam We Trust") co-founded the Plan-It-X in 1994 with Chris Johnston. She also released music on the label under the name Peanucle. Dorsett was credited as a founder of Boxcar Books and a member of the Long Haul Infoshop.

Our deepest condolences go out to Sam's family and friends.

Though not as fucked up as the the teenager that jumped off an overpass into oncoming 70mph traffic on I-94 yesterday on my way to Summerfest.

people die every day, and every person is just as important as any other. doesn't matter if they're a homeless person, a pop megastar, or just a good, average person who happened to help run a record label.

isnt it ironic that this woman has directly contributed more to the independent music community of our generation than micheal jackson has?

I'm not trying to say she is unimportant to the independent music community, but still man, PIX has such a small impact. Around this website, sure, they'll well known, but ask other people who consider themselves to listen to independent music and see how many recognize the label. Jackson's influence is everywhere, even the independent scene and still strong with our generation.

RIP to her though, this is horrible. I know I love a lot of releases from this label.

Super sad that I didn't learn about this terrible news until now. Plan-It-X has had a profound influence on my life and I owe it all to Sam and Chris.
