The Bronx to release mariachi record in September

The Bronx have announced that they will be releasing their mariachi record, Mariachi el Bronx, on September 1, 2009 via Swami Records. Technically, the band will be releasing the record as "Mariachi el Bronx" and so the record is, in fact, self-titled.

The band also released the more traditional Bronx record, The Bronx in 2008.

oh. maybe i wont like this album as much as i like other mariachi albums. Then ill feel stupid for not getting the hype.

Yeah, he and his brother (who drummed for Suicidal Tendencies for a while) also play with Spinnerette and they were in a really good LA band called Los Villians 99 for a long time.

I only know all this because a friend of mine is married to his sister.

they were in The Drips with Matt and Joby Bronx and Tony from Distillers. that self-titled album by The Drips is possibly my favourite summery straight-up-punk album ever.

Didn't they come out with like 3 similary titled albums within a year? Or was I just so sick of them that it seemed that way? I remember liking Toxicity at one point, but other than that only heard the song BYOB and a bunch of people talking about how awesome Mesmerize, Mermaideyes and Monoxide were.

those last two albums (mesmerize and hypnotize) i didn't hear much about. i can see how a lot of people wouldn't like them. they incorporated a lot of middle eastern melodies and such in their songs though, which was an interesting touch for an otherwise fairly ass nu-metal band.

i wonder why RATM seems to still be alright despite inarguably being rap-metal, yet a band with similar political leanings like system of a down seem to catch a lot of hate.

The first one that came out (whichever one had BYOB on it) was number one on the billboard chart with like 300,0000 the first week.

I basically hate that they let the guitar player sing more. Plus their songs started to come off as lyrically stupid and not just imaginative. Also, RATM was the first rap-metal band of its kind. They didn't come around years later with a DJ and songs about banging hos. Therefore they get a past. Also, Tom Morello is a guitar god.

my friends were covering "bulls on parade" in 7th grade. so his shit can't be that complex. now, i'm not saying RATM didn't have great riffs. they did, but tom morello ain't a guitar god by any stretch. a lot of those riffs were actually pretty close to the zep, actually.

First, Bulls on Parade is likely the simplest song in their entire catalog. Secondly, I've seen the guy play live several times, it's a hell of a lot more entertaining and impressive than anything I've seen Led Zeppelin do.

so not many of us on this site know how good they were in say, 1968 playing 500-person venues. but given the footage i've seen, i'd go with seeing Zep over RATM any day. i've actually never seen RATM live anyway, but there have been interviews where tom morello compares what he does on guitar to the percussive qualities of record scratching. so really, he really is the DJ.

I don't and never really did listen to System Of A Down, but I did see them at SXSW once with Cypress Hill and Sick Of It All (weird lineup, I know) and they are actually really talented musicians... the arrangements in some of the songs were really uncanny and innovative. Suffice to say, they kept my attention during their performance.
I was more stoked for Cypress Hill though...

I disagree completely. I love System of a Down. I will agree that all the solo projects or whatever that have spawned off of it sucks, but the band to me will always be awesome.
