ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

Never listened to these guys, is their ska material any good?

MattRamone (July 17, 2009)

Last night I had a dream your dad was a porn magnate and kept hanging around all of us naked making awkward conversation.

ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

Next weekend we're stopping at my parents to make your dreams come true?

Their backyard does look like a poolside porn set.

MattRamone (July 17, 2009)

I'm working on getting off work. I want to come up and go off.

ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

I'll probably take that Friday off and start early. The Titan House's myspace still hasn't messaged me back, but I'm assuming it's on for Friday.

MattRamone (July 17, 2009)

If I get a whole two days of partying with the might Sean Extra Cheese, I'm not gonna complain. Probably gonna have to drive now though.

ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

I'll see if you can leave your car in front of a friend's place or something then. Parking near me is expensive.

MattRamone (July 17, 2009)

How much would it cost for one day? If it's less than the cost of a bus ticket it might be worth it.

ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

I'll check on my way home from work today, but I'm pretty sure it's like twenty something dollars for a day, plus another 5 for overnight til 6AM, then they might charge you another day or hourly. That's the cheapest place which is about 2 blocks from my apartment. I'll check the exact prices later.

ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

If you park at my buddy's Keith place, it's only a short walk to the el train. The el is only $2 and a ten minute ride, or about $10/10 minute cab ride.

Hey_Asshole (July 17, 2009)

it is pretty ok for what it is.

their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/cherrypoppindaddies) has one of their ska songs from the "Susquehanna" record. "Hi And Lo" pretty fair for their ska offerings

if you can find it, Don Quixote is one of their older ska songs that was pretty big for them

ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

Thanks, man. I'll be checking it out after work.

In my head I imagine they have a lounge-y Slackers/Buford O'Sullivan sound, yes/no?

FresnoSka (July 17, 2009)

No, more upbeat third wave sounding

akmofo (July 17, 2009)

Their albums have kind of been all over the place stylewise (Ska, Swing, Rock, Country) but some of their better ska songs:

Kids on the street-Don Quixote,Say it to my face,Kids on the Street, Irish Whiskey
Soul Cadillac-Soul Cadillac, Irish Whiskey (re-recorded)
Susquehanna - Hi and Lo

2:29 if you can find it was on a 7" with Reel Big Fish

That being said, a lot of their swing songs off of Zoot Suit Riot kinda blurred the line between rock, ska and swing.

FresnoSka (July 17, 2009)

I think 2:29 was on an import single for Zoot Suit Riot as well.....oh, and I fuckin love Hi and Lo

Skibz777 (July 17, 2009)

'Don Quixote' is one of the best ska punk songs ever, and 'Hi and Lo' should have been as big a hit as 'The Impression That I Get'. Everything else is kind of hit or miss, but I think the compilation should flow really well...

SloaneDaley (July 17, 2009)

I kinda like swing music, I'll admit it.

ExtraCheesePizza (July 17, 2009)

Any recommendations? My knowledge of swing is miniscule at best. I know like, these guys, Brian Setzer, Squirrel Nut Zippers and the song Cab Calloway sings at the end of The Blues Brothers.

SloaneDaley (July 17, 2009)

I don't have any of my music on me at the moment or else I might.

akmofo (July 17, 2009)

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Indigo Swing, Royal Crown Revue are all pretty good.

FresnoSka (July 17, 2009)

Glenn Miller Orchestra

NewKid (July 17, 2009)

Susquehanna was good. I used to be way into these guys back when Zoot Suit Riot came out. They were probably one of the bands that helped get me into punk rock. My first concert was them at the Cleveland Ribfest probably around 98.

Eric

Problematiclogic (July 17, 2009)

I'm all about swing music right now.

That and Cobra Skulls.

drugmoney (July 17, 2009)

i'm going to be pissed if the org doesn't post the rx bandits news i submitted yesterday. i could be a good day for ska. lets just hope they'll post it

MattRamone (July 17, 2009)

Aw, hell. Dang raccoons got into my pill stash again. I need to stop sleepin in the forest.

PitchforkWriter (July 17, 2009)

Whatup, Nick Nolte?

Hey_Asshole (July 17, 2009)

their ska stuff is pretty good.

it sucks that this band got swept away in that whole "swing revival" bullshit. they are a pretty eclectic band, overall

akmofo (July 17, 2009)

I think the problem is people only associate them with swing because of Zoot Suit Riot.

Even during the swing era, their shows were only a small amount of swing.

Babrook (July 17, 2009)

I liked this band when I was like, 8.

When I recently put 'cherry' and 'poppin'' together, I shat a brick.

akmofo (July 17, 2009)

Their singer went to University of Oregon the same time as me and I used to see him walking around campus daily. Just your average guy, I doubt anyone in his classes knew the guy sitting next to them had sold a few million records.

One of my favorite bands, never got the credit they deserved.

FresnoSka (July 17, 2009)

They are a great band, but too eclectic for the mainstream (which is a shame). I think they're lucky the whole 16 month swing revival even took place, or they would have never gotten any credit.

telegraphrocks (July 17, 2009)

Few million? You sure?

Skibz777 (July 17, 2009)

'Zoot Suit Riot' went double platinum in 2000. 'Kids on the Street' sold in the tens of thousands, as well.
