Media: Mariachi el Bronx: "Quinceniera"

Mariachi el Bronx, the mariachi-themed alter ego of hardcore/rock outfit The Bronx, have posted a new song from their forthcoming album. The record is titled Mariachi el Bronx, and is due out September 1, 2009 via Swami Records.

The band also released the more traditional Bronx record, The Bronx in 2008.

This is cool. I, unironically, enjoy mariachi music. I hate, however, salsa, merengue and machata.

Ah. I only hear it in broken English from my neighbors. I love hanging out with them, but I hear salsa, merengue and bachata blasting non-stop in my neighborhood 24 hours a day.

actually getting a masters in salsa performance. You'll be happy to know that this style of music, like punk, has it's shit and it's awesomeness. If you hear a salsa tune on "dancing with the stars", chances are, it's gonna blow ass. etc.

My cousin is a salsa singer in San Francisco and I've gone to a few shows with him (both for his group and for others) and I have complete respect for the music. Especially the percussionist's, damn are they good. Having lived in Los Angeles my whole life and being Hispanic, latin music has always been a part of my life.

I bet. I used to like quite a bit of Salsa (didn't seek it out, but enjoyed it), but now it's all I hear all the time...it's maddening.

look for a band called The Spanish Harlem Orchestra. They play with that old school swing but exist now. So amazing. Easily my favorite band.

I actually like this. I can't imagine people who aren't part of the Hispanic culture or grow up somewhere like Los Angeles where the culture is a huge factor really enjoying this though. I'm glad they took this project seriously instead of using it as a humerous gimmick.

I wanted to like this band but was really skeptical of how it would sound. Turns out it's pretty good (in my opinion). I can actually listen to a whole record of this.

It sounds good and all, but is anyone seriously going to want to hear this often? How many people are going to pull out this record when there are other things to listen to?

I feel like they wasted moneys.
