Tours: Down By Law / The Spears

Down By Law and The Spears have confirmed a short tour of Florida and Georgia. The bands will kick things off with an October 17th show in Saint Petersburg with the Murder Junkies.

The Speares will be supporting their new record Shove, which hits stores on September 15th. The record features members of D.R.I., Hated Youth, Pink Lincolns, and Down By Law. A stream of which can currently be found at punkrockreview.org.

Man, I would love to see DBL again; last time (well, only time) was in '03 at a VFW Hall in Joliet. Not surprisingly not too many people were there but it was definitely one of the most fun shows of my lifetime.

Great interview Bill. DBL is one of my all time favorite bands, and Dave is one of punk's best songwriters. I did an interview with him years ago, around 98, and it got lost. Fucking sucks, wish I still had it.

wasn't Down By Law supposed to release a new album this year? what ever happened with that?

In TheOneTrueBill's interview with Smalley that he posted above, he asks:

Bill: I recently read online that you're working on a new record to be released on Jailhouse Records. Can you give any more information or possibly even a timeframe for its release? How did you get hooked up with Jailhouse initially? Will the new album's title be smashed into one word?

Dave: Ha! I don't know about the smashed part -- someone posted that DBL's best records have been longonewordtitles (punkrockacademyfightsong and windwardtidesandwaywardsails). I'm not so sure -- I think All Scratched Up! is one of the band's stronger albums, and there's a lot of folks who love Blue or the first one too-- but it is funny that two of our albums had that kind of title. For the timeframe, etc., I am not really sure. I hope we will be recording in the late summer/early fall, and then that it would be released in the late fall, but I'm not 100 percent sure.

"All Scratched Up" was such a slept-on record, but it's still one of the best of the 90's.

Down by law's post-epitaph stuff is a bit weak for me. Those first five albums are fucking amazing, maybe it's that "California sound" I was really into in the early-mid 90's...

I still have the first five OOP albums on vinyl, but I still hope they get re-released one of these days...

Would LOVE to re-release em. Unfortunately I think it would be quite difficult to get the rights from Epitaph to do so:(

It's something I really really would like to do however.

They do have something new in the works for the near future though.
