Sunny Day Real Estate talk reunion, future plans

Sunny Day Real Estate spoke to Spinner.com on the eve of the reissue of their classic albums, Diary and LP2. The two records will be reissued by Sub Pop Records on September 15, 2009 in remastered format with bonus material.

Bassist Nate Mendel (also of the Foo Fighters) was apparently instrumental to the reunion:

I was a bit of a pain in the ass to Jeremy and William. I had tried before, but thought it wouldn't harm our relationship too badly if I called and tried one more time. Next thing we know, we were playing our songs again and had a major tour booked. The biggest deciding factor for me in a reunion was the fact that it would be all original members.

My roommate (who also sits in the cube next to me at work) is super excited because he's listening to the entire 36 Crazyfists discography that he downloaded last night.
He tells me this like I'm supposed to be excited too... That'd be like if I expected him to be excited about the revival tour tix I just bought (ohh yeaaah!)

This is their, what, 3rd "reunion" not counting Fire Theft? Or is it only the 2nd?

Pretty sure its only the second--not counting the Fire Theft. Nate was always the holdout.

Wasn't ever interested in the reunion stuff, but I heard a Fire Theft song on WOXY awhile back and it was pretty great.

Ok, so the one in the early 2000s or so when they did the record on Time Bomb was it, until Fire Theft?

Pretty sure. They did a record on Sub Pop with a new bassist, then did a record on Time Bomb with Jeremy playing bass.

So I can see the confusion--they had one reunion with 2 different lineups, each recording a record that no one cared about.

the fire theft is an amazing album.. the last sunny day album is a complete letdown though. mediocore by all standards.

excited to see what comes of this reunion though.
