Media: Children of Bodom post Billy Idol, CCR, Suicidal Tendencies covers

Finnish metal act Children of Bodom have posted three covers from their forthcoming covers album Skeletons in the Closet due out September 22, 2009. Along with the newly posted covers from Billy Idol, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Suicidal Tendencies, the band tackles songs by The Ramones, Slayer, Anthrax, Johnny Cash and more.

Under USA copyright law, releaing a cover of a record does not require the copyright holder's assent so long as the party releasing the cover version pays the statutorily determined licensing fees and the new recording does not change the fundamnetal character or harmony of the song.

Most metalheads I know are so quick to bash punk rock but then bands like this cover punk songs and It makes my soul smile.

Plus punk bands never cover metal.

There is a lot of crossover between punk and metal these days, especially with labels like Relapse being huge. I'm sure that you could find a lot of punk covers by metal bands if you look hard enough.

For example, I recently got a cassette from a black metal band called Malveillance, and half of the songs on it are Ramones covers. It's pretty sweet.

Also, I like how this only took a day or so to appear on the website while the Rorschach reunion has not even been covered on this website.
