John Lydon shares his favorite records, rips on Green Day again

John Lydon of Sex Pistols and Public Image Limited spoke to The Guardian about some of his favorite records. Among them are albums from The Kinks, Roxy Music, The Raincoats, Can, Kate Bush and Talvin Singh. He also takes a moment to share more of his thoughts on Green Day saying:

The blancmange that is Green Day, where you have a Johnny Rotten first verse, a Billy Idol chorus and a Sham 69 second verse. Preposterous!

...And the fact that when they started none of the bands he mentioned were likely influences.
The guy acts as if he is the only guy that ever had an attitude. Jerry Lee Lewis was much more of an egotist but I'd take The Killer over Rotten any day.

I'm sure the guys from Green Day appreciate this comment, since i do recall Billy Joe saying back in the day(1994-95) that Johnny Rotten was a huge influence on his stage presence as far as spitting at people and his weird, bulging, wandering eyes.
I actually miss that Green Day... now they are all serious and trying to save the world.... fucking stupid

I blame Bono. It was the moment they did that song with U2 that they completly jumped the shark. U2 is a scientology onto itself. It has the power to suck the good out of anything it is associated with.
I do have a feeling that the next Green Day record will be a return to form. Then again, I have said the same thing about Weezer so many times that the words are essentially meaningless.
