Insult to Injury: Kurt Cobain and Johnny Cash sing YMCA in "Band Hero"

If Dave, Krist and Courtney weren't angry enough, it looks like the new ability to import Band Hero songs into Guitar Hero 5 is going to push them over the edge. In this latest clip, a player has the late Kurt Cobain join the late Johnny Cash to sing the disco hit, "YMCA." Later, Kurt is used to play the Spice Girls' "Wannabe."

All I'm saying is that Nirvana appeals to the same lowest common denominator that spice girls, village people, and fake instrument video games do. Any actual artistic merit gets so convoluted by companies peddling their wares that the music doesn't even matter. It's all background noise for a shoe commercial. Capice?

fuckin sucks. My buddy made some spicy cilantro sauce in Austin when I was visiting... I think I ate too much and it fucked my last night. Tried to go out but I had to go home because I was on the shitter about every 30 mins for 12+ hours in pain. I wanted to die.

I actually think this is punk rock. Taking an image of a recognized figure and altering the presentation dates back to the Sex Pistols' God Save The Queen poster.

Why would anyone get upset with video game portrayals? Are people worried that others will think a video game event represents reality? When I was a little kid playing Super Mario on Nintendo I didn't think that in the real world I could walk, jump, hit my head against a brick block then and coins would appear!!!

My Guitar Hero 5 band has my created guy on guitar, Kurt Cobain singing, Carlos Santana on drums and Johnny Cash on bass. If you can't beat em, join em I guess.

Personally I don't really care, but I think Activision is shooting themselves in the foot. Sure they have the law on their side, but their indifference to complaints from bands like No Doubt and estates like Kurt Cobain can't help them when it comes to making the next game. They depend on the goodwill of artists, and when you have a competitor like Rock Band, who does seem to respect the people they work with (for example the Beatles0, well I think they're going to be totally fucked next time around!

Maybe they shouldn't have signed the fucking contract that allowed them to use their likeness. I guess when someone flashes you enough money you don't need to read the fine print. I love how they are crying about it and not taking responsibility for what they signed.
