it takes the whole EP down a notch for me..although I don't really like Skid Rock that much either

I've noticed that whenever I listened to the Bonus Tracks of which there are a large number apparently, I am consistently unimpressed. Whereas there are almost no weak tracks on their last three albums (Benefits.. is really not that good IMO)

The Diver EP was pretty good though, even if it was one song and one jokier track

I was so relieved when I heard this song on the EP. What made Ruiner such a great album was some of the slower tracks and I thought this fit in perfectly. But I will say that I think this video is pretty...dumb? I would think the whole livefootage/tourfootage/thembeingthemfootage would have suited this video best because it seems like a very personal song.

But oh well. Great song, great EP, great band.

I'd say Speed of Dark isn't exactly at a breakneck speed. And one of their best, and most under appreciated, tracks.

Mute Print > Ruiner > This > Career Suicide. I love this band to fucking bits, but I for some reason liked it when they were more melodic in tune and their lyrics were a bit more metaphorical, rather than straight in yo' face music and the fuck you lyrics they approached on Career Suicide. Mind me, it was the best release of 2007; all they have done since Mute Print is of fine fine quality, but what got me into this band was the techy melodic hardcore punk that was totally unique to me at the time, not their Propagandhish tracks.

This is most definitely the most lackluster song I've heard from these guys (In Vino Veritas II being the second but atleast the vocal harmonies were cool). The quirky/clever/tourette-like lyricism that AWS is known for is nonexistent in this song as is any real musicianship. It's ironic that this song is called fun time considering how much this song lacks the sonic quality of fun. As for the video, they look way too excited to be playing such a boring song. I really hope this is just a hiccup in the future of AWS because Ruiner was a lyrically amazing album, Career Suicide was instrumentally amazing (the lyrics had their moments), and hopefully on their next full length they can fuse these two qualities.

Right on. I'm not saying they're not capable of writing a slower song, its just that the only two that they have written that I can recall (In Vino, and Fun Time) have lame lyrics. In Vino had good vocal harmonies and the musicianship was there but the lyrics were just so boring and repetitive. Fun Time has neither good lyrics or musicianship. One of the things about their lyrics that drew me into liking AWS so much is the irony in them. Lines like "Don't you fuck with this halo above me" make me chuckle to myself.

Obviously somebody who doesn't know the meaning of the word musicianship. Just because they aren't shredding the entire song, hardly means it lacks musicianship. They are each playing tasteful parts that serve the song. THAT is musicianship.

Well then musicianship is the wrong word, but there's no doubt that there is nothing special about the instrumental aspect of this song minus some crafty bass playing.

I appreciate your courtesy, but all I'm trying to say is that the lyrics for the song are uncharacteristically mediocre. These lyrics could have been written by any band; they are very vague and impersonal, not to say that they are bad because they are dissimilar to their other lyrics but they are just very unintriguing. Also, just from listening to the song from a very general standpoint, the click track is just so apparent and it doesn't capture their live energy. Instead of the edgy/emotional feel you get from most AWS songs, this song just sounds very uninspired and has a seemingly intentional "radio friendly" feel which I hope I am wrong about because I love a AWS a great deal.

Let's just agree to disagree. This song is to many the best song off their new EP; mine being Shower Scene, followed by this song. I don't really understand what's not to like about the lyrics though. To me its kind of a follow up to the lyrics in 5 to 9. And musically, its not breakneck paced and full of tech shit, but it is interesting and still so powerful and catchy even though it is slow and mainly based around power chords. Great approach to something different.

I'll say it. I think what holds AWS from being completely awesome and going to the next level is the lackluster drumming. He just isn't that great. I mean, he gets the job done but he isn't nearly as good of a musician as the other guys in the band. And AWS needs a great drummer because they play fast and technical music.

A good example of a similar situation is Strung Out. Their first album "Another Day in Paradise" was good but not great. When did they become great? When they got Jordan as a drummer and released "Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues."

Anyone else agree with me?

I don't think he's a bad drummer, but considering the music they play yeah, maybe a drummer like jordan fromn strung out is more appropriate. By the way jordan plays on Another day in paradise... He had like 1 week to learn all the songs

I saw them live about a month ago w/ Riot Before in Va Beach. Being a drummer myself, I was blown away with the drummer's performance. He is pretty damn technical in my opinion. He changes rhythms/tempos at the drop of a dime. Given that its pretty technical music, at the basis of it, its still straightforward rock, with insane solos of course. It's not like they play free form jazz. Very rarely do they venture from the typical 4/4 or 2/2 time signature. His fills are great and his transitions into slower or faster parts are amazing. What more could you ask from him when he plays in a band the stays within the basic rhythms of rock music.

And also, it takes a fucking athlete to play at the speed that he does for 22 songs straight AND then come out play the epic 6 minute "Debts and booze". So anybody that wants to say "lackluster" about his drum

I think he is a good drummer and yes, the fact that he can keep up for 20 something songs is amazing. I also play the drums and I just don't think he is great. Correct, most of their music is 4/4 and 2/2 but that doesn't mean he can't be creative. The bottom line is there are a lot of drummers that play the same "basic rhythms of rock music" that are far better than him. I still love AWS and his drumming gets it done, I just think they could be a lot better if they had a drummer that was more creative and technical. And I don't simply mean changing rhythms and temps at the drop of a time, I mean intricate fills, more creative beats, and mixing in some off tempo stuff.

crappy video clips really make awesome bands look dumb, also why make the worst song on the e.p the one that gets the clip, skid rock or australias would have been a way better/non-wussy choice. wuss factor to definately set to 10 with this song

Love this band. Good song. Good video as far as music videos go.

No music video can do this band justice though, they are a live band. Nothing compares to these guys live. One of the best live bands I've ever seen. I haven't seen a band this intense since The Suicide Machines...
