Tours: The Gaslight Anthem / Tim Barry

Gaslight Anthem have announced a month of headlining dates this summer, with Tim Barry as confirmed opener. The band will be supporting their upcoming album, American Slang which is due out June 15, 2010.

Speaking of that album, NME has put together a track-by-track breakdown of the highly anticipated new album here. The article draws comparisons to Tom Petty, Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen.

Wow. Music in the Park? Too bad that last two times they've been in San Jose it has been part of some strange music festival like this. Music in the part is a fun idea, but I tend to avoid it, due to the throngs of people who just show up because they like free things and not the actual music. Though it may be worth it to see Tim Barry on a huge stage.

No. It doesn't have anything to do what how "important" it is, you condescending prick.

I would just like to have the option to go up front if I wanted to. Or, to be granted access to the same areas that everyone else who paid what I did has access to. I understand they got there all early and camped out, but, I have a fucking job and a real life and a mortgage to pay, and because of that I can't sit around for hours to wait for a show to start while I bum change. Either it's a general admission area or it isn't, map out the venue that way if it isn't and charge accordingly.

Specifically, I prefer that a venue have a large open floor and a balcony as opposed to weird tiers and a ton of seats. The sound is good there, and everyone can get a good view, but it breaks up the audience, and the crowd reaction / interaction with the performer o

There are no seats on the floor at that venue; they're all up in the balcony. That front area that's "so intimate" is only about 30-40 feet deep, which you'd probably be that far back from at any bigger show at any venue if you weren't there when doors open.

I post a lot of original thoughts on here, but I tend to point out stupid shit people like you say.

As for that last paragraph, that's never happened. Never if I seen anyone post anything like that, nor do I have any recollection of inferring any of that. I may suck, but I'm not the one whining that a venue is unfair because you can't get close enough to a cheap Springsteen rip-off.

Exactly. People fucking love this band now. Well, a lot more people love this band now, since 59 Sound. Prior to that they were more a best kept secret kind of thing.

But is this record a lot more accessible than 59 Sound?? Because they weren't doing places this big at the height of that record. Seems to me that they're banking on this thing being a monster right away. Nothing I heard off of 59 Sound was particularly that good, or at least as good as people on here make it out to be.

I caught Tim Barry a couple years ago opening for Fifth Hour Hero and had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised though. Great live show.

At least the LC is an outside venue with no roof - so, if it doesn't rain, it's gonna be greatt.

It kind of bums me out that literally less than a year ago, The Gaslight Anthem were playing a show at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, which is a small, more intimate venue and now they're playing the fucking Fillmore, which is way bigger and way lamer. I mean it's awesome for them to be making money and playing large crowds, but I just want to see them play in a basement somewhere in New Jersey... is that wrong of me?

In Bring It On, I'm pretty sure I'm hearing "Give me the children you don't wanna raise" as opposed to what's been quoted in the NME article. It's about a girl leaving him for another man. Super Springsteen-esque though, I'll give them that.

I thought the Gaslight were going to put out a rocking new album, not something softer, slower and less catchy.
I can predict the Org will still fill the collective cup and stack it in their end of year lists anyway.

i dont know if anyone has pointed this out yet but Gaslight are more like the 2000's (or would 2010's be more appropriate) incarnation of the generation x's alternative rock of the early 90's. Check out how similar 59 sound are to these
