Tours: Samiam (U.S./Europe)

Samiam have announced a run of (two) US and (many) European dates this fall in support of their upcoming rarities compilation, Orphan Works. The 18 song set will be made up of rare tracks from the You Are Freaking Me Out and Clumsy eras. An August release is expected through No Idea Records.

A jaunt round Germany with the occasional skip over the border doesn't even come close to counting as a European tour.

It's like UK tours that consist of a London and Manchester date...

Those motherfuckers. They cancelled on Harvest Of Hope earlier this year cause they said they didn't want to be a band anymore and now their going on tour? Fuuuuck.

This is what I get for missing them at Fest 8.

Might go to the Brooklyn show. I didn't know what to think of them at the Fest. I remember their set being a little clumsy without the bass player.

I hate the fact that no promoters in parts of sweden even remotely connected to the rest of europe (I had to take a fourteen hour train ride for the one exception when Gaslight came through last winter) doesn't like this type of music. All we get here is crust and d-beat (which isn't necessarily bad, but if I got to choose between Born/Dead and Bridge & Tunnel, my answer should be pretty obvious).

I was so excited when they played Jon Stewart back in the 90s. I haven't seen them nearly as many times as I need to.

To me that song and Dull are two of the greatest punk rock songs ever written. I know you have an affection for The Bridge but to me those two songs are so incredibly well put together structurally and melodically that they surpass even formulaic pop songs that by their very nature are supposed to be memorable. And that doesn't even take into account the emotional delivery of some very well written lyrics. To get to the point...Samiam is the shit.

Agreed completely. The Bridge hit me hard because when I first got it back in 91 or so, that fucking thing destroyed me. The fact that I had it and Jawbreaker introduced to me around the same time fused them to me for life.

Dull is haunting and should never be covered. It will never be done justice.

I wish I could have joined your Samiam love fest. I'll just say that Astray is one of my top 10 favorite records of all-time. Maybe top 5. And while I love every single song on that record, especially "Sunshine", "Mud Hill", "Mexico" and "Dull", I think "How Long" is my favorite. The lyrics absolutely nail a certain feeling for me, I think that's what it is.

can't find a decent video for this song, but i couldn't get enough of this record back in the day. newer stuff is all great as well, i just remember seeing them like once a month around santa barbara/ventura (94-95). matter of fact, it's going on the mp3 player right now.

i didn't like the sound quality with billy and soar. to me, it took away from the songs. then clumsy came out and they were pretty much playing every weekend, so i guess it just became my goto record of theirs. fuck, i even named my truck simca back then. i was a nerd, but only my close friends knew the reference.

How is it even possible to not like this band? I think back to that thread on the Fest 8 discussion board entitled 'Samiam < every other band at fest' (or something to that effect) and am absolutely overcome with rage.

It has nothing to do with musical preference, it's just a gauge in which I measure friends (much like the "you must be this tall to ride" signs at amusement parks)
