Paper + Plastick auctioning off test pressings to benefit Protagonist

Our friends at Paper and Plastick are stepping up to help out one of their bands, Protagonist. Earlier this year the band had $22,000 worth of gear stolen right before entering the studio to record their new album. The label has dug up 43 rare test pressings from the vaults to be auctioned off. All proceeds will go straight to the band.

The list of records to be auctioned off include items from A Wilhelm Scream, The Flatliners, Frank Turner, Westbound Train, The Riot Before, The Swellers and many more. You can see the whole list below

Touring bands should invest in these http://www.tirelock.com/. They won't necessarily keep your gear from being stolen out of whereever you kept it, but at least you'll still have a vehicle / trailer.

just out curiosity doesn't anyone else find that gear estimate a bit high based on the list? market used prices put all that stuff around $10,000 under the estimate (note the trailer wasn't listed on P+P's site, but wouldn't add 10g's). if the extimate is for the insurance company i'm all for it, but it shouldn't cost that much to acquire all that, especially if you don't buy new. either way i'll give their disc another spin today.

the band paid for it, they would know. they had a couple of vintage gibsons, one of the early jcm800s which go for way more than newer models and 2 orange 4x12s (which in decent condition, will go for way more than 1,600 for both). not to mention their merch which can get way more pricey than any gear.

a Gibson L6S without a prior headstock break is maybe worth $650 (were low end, and not very desireable much like the sonex, and marauder), and a 1981 Gibson SG would be lucky to fetch $1200 (they declined in value once the plant moved from Kalamazoo to Nashville in 1976). early jcm 800s you're looking at $1000 (i bought one recently in great condition for $800...yes the mk2 with the vertical inputs 100W), maybe add $200 for the road case. and unless they have a much more expensive cabinet, orange 4x12s go for $1100 brand new, so $800 a piece used is quite generous.

Hey dude, I'd be more than happy to email you a break down of what everything cost and where that number came from if it's bugging you. Also if you can find me a lead on where a person can find an 81' SG like the one that was stolen for only $1200, i would be equally shocked and appreciative.

i'm in no way trying to seem disrespectful over it all or call you out or anything. i've dealt a lot in gear, and especially vintage gear. i buy a lot of things directly from people, so it cuts out the costs of paying for store employees and building rent. i've had luck enough to pick up 2 1970s era SGs within the past four years for under 700 a piece. while that is not your everyday deal, it is not uncommon to see them for $1000 or less. owning one from the early 70s (which you can't exactly date because of the repeated serial numbers) as well as a 76, i can attest to the difference in feel between the two after they moved the factory. so if you want, I will keep an eye out for vintage SGs. there are deals to be had out there, and they may take some waiting, do come by. i guess if the SG you had was in immaculate condition it might be harder, but if you're looking for a player's guitar, search a little harder, and you can find a pretty good bargain. that was my main point of the comment. but if you want to email me a breakdown or anything else feel free to send it to americanriot@gmail.com. maybe i can help direct you to some better deals. again no disrepect over it all.
