John K. Samson to release ‘Provincial Road 222’ EP in September

John K. Samson

Weakerthans frontman John K. Samson will release a new solo EP on September 21st titled Provincial Road 222. The collection will be available as a limited edition 7" and digital download via Epitaph / ANTI- Records in North America and Grand Hotel Van Cleef in Europe. The European version arrives a few days earlier on the 17th of September. Provincial Road 222 features backing from the Correction Line Ensemble and is the second in John's series of recordings exploring the roadways of Manitoba. The first release in this series was City Route 85.

i love john k and all his stuff from propagandhi, and had never heard that he sounded like a muppet. that being said, after i read your post it occurred to me that, not only does he sort of sound like one, he actually sort of looks like one.

Not for a long time. I spoke with him and he said that he isn't even thinking about it at this point.

That was a pretty good interview, I like the part where he says he doesn't know how to describe their sound, but he prefers to be considered punk and found in the punk section of record stores.

The part where he talks about playing all 4 albums over 4 nights in 4 different venues in Winnipeg in December makes me wish I hadn't moved away from Winnipeg. But then again I saw them a bazillion times around the time of the first two records, so it's not so bad.

I cannot wait for this. I loved the first one and think this one may be even better.
I expect the songs to be more lonely and isolated because of the country road angle.

Nah, do you know where PR 222 is? It runs along Lake Winnipeg, so i fully expect bouncy Beach Boys, fun in the sun, cruisin' with the top down, type tunes. This guy writes that kind of music right?

Saw him when he did a solo tour in the spring. There is something so awesome about a guy sitting on a stool and playing guitar.
In that setting you really gain appreciation of how great a lyricist he is. One of the greatest.

I just really hope The Weakerthans go on a full fledged Canadian tour soon. I've missed them the last 4 or five times they've come through and have never seen them live. Last time I had tickets but went to Neil Young instead. To this day, I'm not sure if that was the right choice.

Stoked to hear this series is continuing! It had been so long since the first ep came out I was begining to think maybe the project got cancelled. JKS is by far one of the best songwriters of this generation.

man, i cannot wait to get my hands on this. anyone know if the weakerthans released their live dvd yet? they were shooting for it in charlottetown when they played there. the set was awesome.
