Rename the Getaway!

The Getaway, who recently signed with Epitaph, are changing their name. They are asking fans to help them compile a list of new names for the band. You can email your suggestions to Aaron. If the band decides to use your band name, they will allow you to take whatever merch they have made before its available to the public. This includes an advanced copy of their upcoming album and whatever shirts / posters / etc. they have done up.

If your band has worked up to the point where you are signed by the biggest independant label in the word, is changing your name just months before your next album comes out really the best career move to make? Any word on why they're doing this?

I figure its better for them to change it now, before they're promoted heavily, rather than after. They're still relatively unknown at this point so its pretty safe.

- The Bandwagoneers - Taking Back Wednesday Forever - Musical Pod People - Soulless pushers of rehashed void dreck - Jump 48 - Run the car into the ground - The biters - We're bland on purpouse and allow our creativity and ability to be castrated by the dull knife of contemporary trends that we may make lots of money and get laid by boatloads of sexually confused 14 (and a half!) year old girls who think we're dreamy -- doesn't this set of matching horn rimmed glasses look good on us? - Help us fund the plastic surgery neccesary to launch us to TRL superstardom Oh, sure, they'll never see this, and if by some fluke they actually did, they'd probably just sort laugh, scoff and brush it off like so many underaged groupies. But, gosh, I'll be darned if launching critical attacks on others from relative anonymity and obscurity isn't a huge amount of fantastic time passing fun!

just intiails like: IMWD (stands for I'm Well Done) OBR (stands for our band rules or rocks) O.R.A.L (Open Rectal Ass Lickers) i think i like that last one what do you think? i dont know never heard the getaway but if there isnt like some "real" reason (like if someone is already putting records under the name nationally or internationally and pretty "big" to stand by that) to change your name then why change it at all? Andy from the Getaway here! Yeah, we have to change our name, as you all know. The reason is because there are too many bands with the name The Getaway. We've been thinking about doing it for like 4 months now, and we think the time is now. We haven't toured yet, so it won't make be a bad business move. eriously. I mean, God Forbid they play what they like. I am sure that peple would say what you listen to is generic. Hell, every bit of music is generic in a way. Boy-bands all sound alike, do you not concur? All these three-cord punk songs about agression all sound similar to me. The only difference is really the vocals. Hardcore is nothing but screaming in Drop-D tuning. I don't give a shit if you like the genres listed, because, hey, listen to what you like, and play what you like. Some of you guys make me sick.

People will play what they like. SO you like punk rock, eh? So if you were to start a band, wouldn't it be punk rock of the same vein as your inspirations? I can;'t tell you how many time i hear of another prep band playing another preppie coffeshop with nothing but Dave Mathews Band covers and rip-offs. But what is what they like, so despite my criticisms and those of others, they still play. Eminem is a white rapper in a Black-dominated Genre. Why? bnecause it';s what he likes. He probabkly isn't in it for just the moeny. How many of his songs are about smokin' herb in da back of da escalade wit da bitches screamin'? I havn't heard any from him yet. I was just reading the posts about Getaway's name change and decided that the best name is right here on the message board: "Someone on Saturday." Has a nice ring to it...could have several meanings...and is pretty catchy, IMO. Just my two cents...
