The list is repeated twice, that's why it's so weirdly long. I was wonder what the hell sort of fun it would be to have a game with THAT many tunes in it before taking a second look.
One of my saddest moments in music was when 'Second Coming' by The Dickies came out, a girl I liked at the time said 'who the fuck is this? They sound like Rush if they didn't know how to play'. I no longer liked said girl.
There's a generation of rock critics that have kept them from being in Rolling Stone and from being a part of that conversation. They were on the other side of this divide that we're talking about, back when they were held in corners by Rush fans at parties, going "But you don't understand! But you don't understand!" And they really liked Elvis Costello or they really liked David Bowie or something that was a little more critically accepted. And now, it's kind of like we're all so old that - even if you hated Rush in the 80s and the 70s - now you gotta give it up for 'em. You just got to! Or else you're just being an old dickhead. - Matt Stone, South Park
I'm not going to lie-- I'm a halfway fan of Rush. There's a lot that I really like, but there's also a lot that I really don't care for at all. But "Working Man" has one of my favorite bass lines of all time.
For the record, I could give two craps about your opinion of Rush. Rush has stood the test of time, without support from mainstream promotion, "critical acclaim," or bowing to musical trends. The same three guys, all extremely proficient and admired for their musicianship, have been making music together since 74. They must be doing something right.
after watching the documentary about them, I have a newfound respect for them. They have always been one of my favorite bands because of the music they play. I really think "Signals" through "Hold Your Fire" have songs that are more politically motivated than a lot of "political" punk bands.
Haha, I'm more interested in it being the Spiderman theme than it being by the Ramones. I've given up on expecting good songs from punk bands of the '70s. I'm still waiting for a Clash song that would actually be fun to play. Well, besides "Safe European Home".
I used to cringe every time I saw one of my favorite bands on here, but I don't know if it matters anymore. Curious, does anyone buy these things anymore? I don't think I've seen any of my friends playing these games since high school.
Right. I should have mentioned that my brothers and sisters break out the beatles rockband/guitarhero/whatever pretty regularly whenever I'm home. I realize that the games are still a christmas present mainstay and remain popular with junior high kids. But while I still see some of my friends (early 20s and around) break out FIFA or Modern Warfare I rarely see guitar hero anymore. I don't know, I haven't been into video games since N64 so I'm probably just not that informed.
These games do well enough among their contingent of big fans to keep getting made, but the time where everyone was playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band has passed. That's generally the case for the whole rhythm game genre.
yeah i know. that was the last GH I used. They already used Sharp Dressed Man. I don't know why they'd put it on there again. Chemical Warfare is a sweet Slayer song.
Banned in DC definitely would've been the best Bad Brains song to be on there, I think almost everyone agrees on that. Re ignitions still one of their better songs- but does that make this game worth buying? Not at all.
Sorry, but I spend my time playing in a real band with real instruments at real venues playing real songs I wrote drinking real beer and fucking real girls.
Come on dude, it's a video game. I don't play these games but to say that somebody should pick up a real game is akin to saying that instead of playing Double Dragon or Tekken they should really go out and street fight people. It's just a game.
Sorry, but I spend my time fighting in a real gang with real steel pipes at real factories throwing real knives I sharpened eating real burgers and rescuing real girls.
Not only did you not get the meme, you failed to recognize the double negative, imply that people that like this game are boring adults with fat girlfriends. Minus 4,125 .org-points for you.
Dude, I've never played Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but Calling seems like a way better fit than the older stuff. High flying solos makes for more video game fun than traditional punk songs (however difficult I am sure Matchbook is to play).
I love Strung Out as well, and think they have progressively gotten better over time, so that may taint my opinion.
Finally a Strung Out song! Good choice too, especially with that acoustic intro. Now they still need A Wilhelm Scream, Belvedere, Lagwagon, and... actually, never mind, I still wouldn't play it.
Thank you to all of you who defended the greatness that is Rush. And by the way, holy fucking shit all of 2112 is playable on this game and that is by far the coolest thing ever to be on a guitar or rockband game. Rush is by far the greatest non-punk band of all time. Whoever thinks Rush and Journey sound the same has never heard more than one song by each and realized they both have high pitched voices. Thats just stupid and you obviously know nothing about music other than whatever indie band of the week ur into right now.
In terms of sheer fun they'll never top the Van Halen edition.
