Half_Idiot (August 26, 2010)

Necessary "None of these are punk bands" comment. Let's just leave it at that.

you_are_a_loser (August 26, 2010)

I like the fact that we can report comments, but why can't we report stories?

americanriot (August 26, 2010)

part of me wants to tell you to shut up, and part of me wants to complain with you since my Government Issue reunion show submission never got posted.

you_are_a_loser (August 26, 2010)

Part of me wants to tell myself to shut up a lot of the time. Too bad it doesn't happen often.

ervy (August 26, 2010)

You really, truly don't consider The Ready Set to be a punk band?

StandAlone (August 27, 2010)

lol... pop goes pop

scrumples (August 26, 2010)

Are the people who run Fearless Records really stupid or really cynical?

Babrook (August 26, 2010)

Really rich. Idiot kids eat this shit up.

adam (August 26, 2010)

So long as the "Punk Goes" series continues to exist, higher beings from realms beyond our comprehension will refuse to grant societal enlightenment and advanced medicines upon our species, as we will have proven undeserving. They will be correct in that judgement. Woe is man.

-adam

TahoeJeff (August 26, 2010)

Woe indeed...

Half_Idiot (August 26, 2010)

This almost reads like an introduction to a live Parliament record.

preston (August 26, 2010)

Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time, for y'all have knocked her up...

Half_Idiot (August 26, 2010)

Someone call Dr. Funkenstein!

3Fast3Furious (August 26, 2010)

P-Funk's playing a free show in Hampton, Virginia on 9/11 this year. Totally going.

Half_Idiot (August 26, 2010)

Lucky! About four years ago George Clinton played a neighborhood fest here but it was the same night as Direct Control/Strung Up. I regretted it a little at the time but since neither band made it back to the Midwest before breaking up I'm OK with my decision in retrospect. Still stings though.

ZachLeg (August 26, 2010)

Dude! I live in Poquoson. It's right next to Hampton. I am fucking there.

3Fast3Furious (August 26, 2010)

Sorry to hear that, dude. Poquoson is probably the most racist place in Hampton Roads, and this is coming from someone who lived in Williamsburg for four years. Either way, George Clinton's 9/11 show will be a fun time.

Dante3000 (rich) (August 26, 2010)

Sounds like socialism to me....

Cos (August 26, 2010)

Raelians are so pissed off at Fearless Records.

TahoeJeff (August 26, 2010)

I don't even know any of the original songs that they're covering. Who the fuck is buying these records?

ExtraCheesePizza (August 26, 2010)

Haha, my comment underneath might as well have been a reply to this.

eazyd2 (August 26, 2010)

you seriously never heard paper planes?

mclz (August 26, 2010)

I bet you the band covering this song has no idea who the Clash are.

necktattoo (August 26, 2010)

i've heard the Katy Perry song, heard the M.IA. song, and i've heard Airplanes though had no idea who sings it

heard a few Lady Gaga songs but not that one. that's it.

TahoeJeff (August 26, 2010)

Yeah. I've never had an interest in hearing M.I.A.

BluthCo (August 26, 2010)

I've heard three of the songs being covered, and only one of the bands doing the covering.

istapledmyfoot (August 26, 2010)

obviously not you, but obviously a lot of other people, they wouldn't make 10 volumes of this shlock if it didn't sell..

ExtraCheesePizza (August 26, 2010)

So many 14 year olds are gonna get this as a Christmas present from their clueless parents. I can't think of another way these would actually sell.

robalobadob (August 26, 2010)

You mean Fearless parents?

android (August 26, 2010)

oh well.

Babrook (August 26, 2010)

I should just shut the fuck up because I dig most of the songs they are covering.

scrumples (August 26, 2010)

No matter your opinion of any of the songs here, I can guarantee that the covers will be far, far worse.

Bob_Ice (August 26, 2010)

http://gossipcandy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/sgs4zr.jpg

notfeelingcreative (August 26, 2010)

There are a few that I don't mind, but I'll be damned if "Bulletproof" doesn't sound like the garbage they played at the skating rink iin the late 80's/early 90's.

Cos (August 26, 2010)

Yes, but Major Lazer's reggae remix is awesome.

ExtraCheesePizza (August 26, 2010)

I love me some Diplo.

Cos (August 26, 2010)

Me too, Philly dude. You should check out the whole Major Lazer vs. La Roux mixtape. I haven't even bothered to listen to more than 2 minutes of La Roux and from what I've heard, I don't think I want to. But the mix shreds

jakegreen (August 26, 2010)

it's not that the original songs on the "punk goes" CD's are bad, a lot of them are good pop songs or metal songs or whatever the particular CD caters to, but at least 87% of the cover versions are absolute garbage. and that's being generous.

matt_vinyl_vlog (August 26, 2010)

the fact that i have never heard of a single band on this comp makes its existence just a bit easier to deal with. fuck em.

Dante3000 (rich) (August 26, 2010)

Wow, the accompanying picture really startled me when it loaded. Like, "if there had been a camera on me, the reaction video would probably be on youtube," startled.

Bob_Ice (August 26, 2010)

It works here as well...

http://gossipcandy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/sgs4 zr.jpg

coffee_kid (August 26, 2010)

Little did you know, there was a camera on you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub1yN6wBX04

Fun Fact: Dante3000 is actually a panda. Also, a mother.

Dante3000 (rich) (August 26, 2010)

My god...I'm adorable!

coffee_kid (August 26, 2010)

In other (read: better and more poignant) news, I will now be spend the rest of the day as unproductively as possible since they released the Netflix iPhone app this morning. TO THE OLD TV SHOWS I NEVER WATCHED UNTIL THEY WERE ON DVD!

scrumples (August 26, 2010)

WHAT. Well, there goes my productivity.

d_boons_ghost (August 26, 2010)

This is one of the main reasons why I want an iPod Touch (can't afford iPhone rates and I'm on Verizon anyway).

veep (August 26, 2010)

Punk goes Manchester United better get a good Champions League draw.

Real Madrid in pool two scares me.

eazyd2 (August 26, 2010)

people still care about champions league? europa league is where its at.

veep (August 26, 2010)

Valencia and a trip to Glasgow for Rangers. Fun times.

nick_s (August 27, 2010)

That Rangers match will be an interesting evening.

JayTee (August 26, 2010)

"Punk Goes _____" is the "______ Movie" movies of music.

nedsammy (August 26, 2010)

the highest insult

david5345 (August 26, 2010)

Very true.

samthecritic (August 29, 2010)

truer words have not been spoken

bumS_lie (August 26, 2010)

why isn't Brokencyde on that list?

notfeelingcreative (August 26, 2010)

Too close to actual punk.

JayTee (August 26, 2010)

Seriously, I saw Brokencyde open for Clit 45 once at this house party. These skinheads show up, and even though they claimed they were a-political, they were using the N word and stuff like that, then the Brokencyde guy got all in their face and pulled a knife out, then this brawl started and we all fought em off outside and someone called the cops so we all had to split. I ended up hangin with them after that and we were drinking in an alley singing Cock Sparrer songs and talking about women and shit. Wicked fuckin' night. Dude's are alright in my book.

Tudor (August 26, 2010)

I would have sided with the skinheads.

Cos (August 26, 2010)

now THAT'S a story!

Dante3000 (rich) (August 26, 2010)

So you saw a shitty band open for another shitty band (who has a member that was punched out by a Star Wars dork if I recall correctly) and they shitty band pulled a knife on a guy because he used the N-word (which Brokencyde has used in their own songs) and then they all got into a fight?
Sounds like everyone loses.

Bob_Ice (August 26, 2010)

Or wins, depending on how perverse you like your comedy.

SkolarX (August 26, 2010)

just because a guy likes star wars doesn't mean he can't start some shit

usvsalltheothers (August 26, 2010)

pics or it didn't happen

ZachLeg (August 26, 2010)

i want to believe this so bad. but i refuse to.

JayTee (August 26, 2010)

It's not as fucked as the time I got in a fight alongside Millionaires at a Devotchkas show with this douche who was slapping his girlfriend around right in front of everyone. Millionaires are all about Riot Grrl and women's rights and shit, so they were tossin bows at the dude's nose. It was all bloody and shit, then we all smoked weed with the girl after, and we all got in a heated discussion about Bikini Kill and KillRockStars and shit and I got her number but ended up making out with one of the Millionaires chicks after she left. All in all a rad night.

Tudor (August 26, 2010)

You have a lying whore mouth.

caesarmustafa (August 26, 2010)

Hell yes

Cos (August 26, 2010)

And I was just thinking how awesome and original it would be if someone covered "Paper Planes".

jakegreen (August 26, 2010)

street sweeper social club covered this a while back. not the best band or cover in the world by any means but i guarantee it's better than the one on this CD.

bottle (August 26, 2010)

Have any of those "Punk Goes" comps feature actual punk bands ever? Have they ever been good at all?

Why Fearless? Why? YOU COULD BE PUTTING OUT AT THE DRIVE-IN REPRESSES SO I DON'T HAVE TO PAY A JILLION DOLLARS ON EBAY BECAUSE I WANNA LISTEN TO THEM ON VINYL.

Blerg.

Dante3000 (rich) (August 26, 2010)

Sure, some of the older ones were pretty okay. I think we're just old...and slow...

thepopeofchili-town (August 26, 2010)

The original Punk Goes Pop wasn't bad, and Punk Goes Metal was pretty cool.

SkolarX (August 26, 2010)

first punk goes acoustic was pretty nice as well, though somehow Sugarcult had the best song on it. never figured out how that worked but it was better than Strike Anywhere or Rise Against

2kings (August 26, 2010)

how about a punk goes "punk"

milesqtoast (August 26, 2010)

anyone masturbating?

Bob_Ice (August 26, 2010)

http://gossipcandy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/sgs4zr.jpg

Three times in one story! I'm either a genius or unimaginative. My money's on the latter.

milesqtoast (August 26, 2010)

lol bobi ce

Bob_Ice (August 26, 2010)

If your user name dictates who you are, does that make you a weak, ineffectual or bland person.

acris (August 26, 2010)

awful bands covering awful musicians (except mia, i really like her)

milesqtoast (August 26, 2010)

awful goes awful?

ervy (August 26, 2010)

"pop goes nowhere different vol. 3" or "punk goes somewhere other than on this CD vol.3"

bry79hc (August 26, 2010)

i thought katy perry was punk...

well then what the fuck was she doing on the warped tour?

that was the last straw and the reason i haven't gone back to the warped in in the last few years

notfeelingcreative (August 26, 2010)

Smarter than me, I suppose, I saw Eminem and Black Eyed Peas on warped and still went back the following years.

notfeelingcreative (August 26, 2010)

And Limp Bizkit....

Slamadams (August 26, 2010)

Black Eyed Peas were on warped before Fergie was a part of them. They weren't good, just less bad.

SkolarX (August 26, 2010)

kid rock, sugar ray and plenty of other band through the years that have little if anything to do with punk. warped has never really been about punk, just putting together an enjoyable package of bands from various styles that wouldn't normally be playing together. at least that was my take on it when i used to go to actually watch bands and not just wander around because i was working it and had nothing better to do (going for fun ended in 2001 i think)

Babrook (August 26, 2010)

Katy Perry is enjoyable pop music.

Deal w/ it, nerds.

franchise (August 26, 2010)

katy perry can sang, i would recommend her unplugged album its a great jazzy pop thing. plus shes hot. meow

mclz (August 26, 2010)

Not even 1 punk band, what a surprise.
Its sad how Bob Becker's taste in good music has gone to complete shit, worse than Louie from Hopeless, and at least Brett Gurewitz has some good taste in music still. Its sad that Fearless is probably the worst label out there if you ask me.

Pedestrian (August 26, 2010)

Two ideas:

I really want to hear Chuck Ragan cover Bad Romance. His voice would just be phenomenal on those whoa-oh-oh-oh-ohhhh-oh-oh-ohs.

Punk Goes Org: a dozen shitty Fearless Records bands covering Hot Water Music, Dillinger Four, and The Lawrence Arms.

dX927 (August 26, 2010)

you mean a dozen shitty Fearless Records bands covering a dozen shitty bands that just happen to sound like Hot Water Music, Dillinger Four, and The Lawrence Arms

Patchy911 (August 26, 2010)

Wait.. is it Punk Goes Pop.. or Pop Goes Punk.. I can't tell.

Arctic_Ja (August 26, 2010)

angry boy, is angry.

IllaZilla (August 26, 2010)

I finally gave up completely on this series when the last one (classic rock) was announced. Up until then I would always at least give it a chance because there were still 1 or 2 bands on them that I liked or at least had an interest in. But with the classic rock one I finally looked at the list and there was not a single act I cared about, and most of them I'd never even heard of.

Some of the old ones had actual punk(ish) bands and some really good tracks. Strung Out doing "Bark at the Moon" on Punk Goes Metal and Thrice doing "Send Me an Angel" on Punk Goes Pop were highlights. Even the first Acoustic one was pretty good. Clearly they've run out of genres to cover *and* decent bands to cover them.

tombagel (August 26, 2010)

I want to punch that picture

nickyno (August 26, 2010)

Lady GaGa is sexy.

Does anyone have the new Fake Problems album?

nedsammy (August 26, 2010)

want the latter. if Gaga is sexy you may call me your holiness

Shtfcksht (August 26, 2010)

Holy shit! someone needs to stop these assholes from making anymore these piece of shit cover albums.....they should call it fags go pop

leatherface (August 26, 2010)

filed under: "ghey"

punkcdsampler (August 26, 2010)

When I first skimmed this I thought the "punk" bands were the "mainstream pop stars" and that real punk bands were gonna cover them. My mistake.

nedsammy (August 26, 2010)

a) Punk Goes Ska was a good looking (though quite rare) comp of 90's skapunk, mostly californian. they should sue.
b) Chuck Covering Lady Gaga? wow. awesome idea.
c) Who the fuck are these bands?
d) B.o.B is as punk as fuck, he worked with Hayley Williams, and they advertise here!

...god knows why.

stuxmusic (August 26, 2010)

Who are these bands?

diy_or_fucking_die (August 26, 2010)

too good to keep to myself. just checked the house of poo[blue]s' website. coming to cleveland 10/29 the fearless friends tour with mayday parade and special guests, presented by freecreditscore.com.

SkolarX (August 26, 2010)

i really enjoyed the first 3 albums in this series (metal, pop, acoustic) everything since has been something that i glanced over the track listing and if i knew the songs being covered, i didn't know the bands covering them or vise versa. this might be the first time i know neither

SpoogeDragon (August 27, 2010)

these compilations seriously need to stop. like, right now.

ImSoAwesome (August 27, 2010)

This is very bad news.

Grue (August 28, 2010)

God, what a shit sandwich.

goodbye_kid (August 29, 2010)

hey guys! is Buckwheat an ok band name? i need your help and please no jokes!

KurtRamone (August 29, 2010)

I recommend State of Offense or Weapons of Mass Disruption.

Cuddly_Cameron (August 29, 2010)
