The Toasters have announced a US and Canadian tour set to kick off in late September. The ska band will be on the road till Halloween.

I have nothing against the shows, I just have an issue with an easily avoidable excess of cutesy ska puns. It devalues ska as a whole, not that there's much value left in the American ska scene nowadays...

Meh, I guess it's better than "skawesome".

What constitutes a "Skalloween", anyways? Unless we're talking about a band like Oingo Boingo or someone who incorporate a lot of spooky imagery into their music and/or stage show, be it all year round or for special holiday shows, then it's passable, but for the other 99% of ska bands, seeing The Toasters on October 31st is no different than seeing them on October 30th or June 14th. And draping fake decorative cobwebs over the bass cabinets does NOT count. It's a needless pun, almost as awful as "Skanksgiving", though I'll admit I did chuckle a bit as I was typing that word out...

What's wrong with "Halloween Ska Show"? It's much more aesthetically pleasing. "Halloween" is in and of itself a cool word. "Skalloween" is nonsensical gibberish. What the fuck is a "skallow"? At least "Halloween Ska Show" is short, sweet and succinct, and, unlike "Skalloween", it carries considerably less of the frightening possibility that such an event consists entirely of just teenagers in checkered Vans playing Rancid covers in bad costumes.

Well calm down, skalloween is ok. It's a little cheesy, yes, but ska has been injected into words forever (Skatalites, Oi/Skampilation Vol 1-3, The Skalars, Skavoovie). And those are pretty reputable examples. You've never known the touch of a woman? Maybe you should...

This IS me being calm! Nevertheless, I have no issue with ska puns, but lines have to be drawn when it's a pun just for the sake of being a pun ("skawesome") or when it's REALLY reaching ("MicroSKApic"). There are obvious exceptions, mostly when it comes to whole bands (Mephiskapheles and the like, though "Flux Skapacitor" is my favorite), but for the most part, it serves no purpose...ska is second only to polka when it comes to genre-based puns and made-up words, but why?!

In short, I have zero tolerance for malarkey, balderdash and monkeyshines. Is that so wrong?

insane maury show today. this girl says the father of her baby is between her husband and ex boyfriend. it gets announced that her exboyfriend is not the father. the husband starts jumping up and down and then it gets announced that he isnt the father either. then it gets announced that the girl is pregnant again and the father could be the husband, ex boyfriend, or the 3rd guy.

it was like m. night shymalan directed this episode of maury...

They haven't changed their set list since about 1998, but wherever the Toasters are playing is somewhere I will undoubtedly be.
