According to a report from Swami Records, San Diego's Sultans will be reuniting for a one-off-show this Halloween. The band was a project formed by John "Speedo" Reis of Rocket From The Crypt (and Drive Like Jehu, The Night Marchers, Hot Snakes) during a break in Rocket's activity in 1999. The band released two records through Reis' label before calling it quits in 2007. The band will reunite at Bar Pink, the bar co-owned by Reis in San Diego's North Park district. The reunion lineup includes Reis (aka Slasher) on guitar & vocals, Andy Stamets (RFTC's ND, aka Black Flame) on second guitar, Reis' brother Dean (aka Black Velvet, also of the Heartaches) on bass, and Tony DiPrima on drums.

Their second album is where it's REALLY at. They never put it out on vinyl but Shipwrecked is amazing. 1+ Reply

Just bought tickets for this. Don't know if I'll wind up going, as Halloween often ends up being a rager at my house with many drunk coworkers, but we'll see. I went to their farewell show in '07 at the Casbah, which was John, Dean, & Mario. I won a pink skateboard from the Swami in a raffle & got my first taste of Beehive & the Barracudas. | Features

i have the ep and the first album, easily my second favorite thing John has done after RFTC. Never really cared for Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, The Back Off Cupds or any of his other bands. Still need to check out the Night Marchers
