I'm throwing up a sandwich

JayTee (September 23, 2010)

I remember when they were called River Fenix.

Yeah, they sucked then too.

mill83 (September 23, 2010)

What did Europe do to you, Fenix TX? They mean well, just leave 'em alone.

mill83 (September 23, 2010)

Although a town named Stoke-On-Trent is fucking funny. That should be like Mecca for anyone named Trent.

nick_s (September 23, 2010)

That's the first time Mecca and Stoke have been put in the same sentence.

hashbrowns (September 23, 2010)

hahahahahahahah

Bob_Ice (September 23, 2010)

Who wins ina fight between Paris, TX and Fenix, TX?

nick_s (September 23, 2010)

Some of these venues are a fairly decent size, I can see this being a bit of a ghost town tour.

Chubbyfresh (September 23, 2010)

Good for you europe you have managed to dig another Shitty band from
it's grave!

hashbrowns (September 23, 2010)

these guys announce a europe tour once a year and nothing else. they make no sense.

leatherface (September 23, 2010)

other than maybe they only sell records and tickets in europe. lots of bands only play overseas. americans are music elitists.

that said, this band sucks buffalo dick.

hashbrowns (September 23, 2010)

that's understandable. but they ONLY announce a month long europe tour every year. they don't even release music for their supposed european fans.

leatherface (September 23, 2010)

oh yeah. prolly cuz they suck at writing songs.

IwishIwasdeaf (September 23, 2010)

The real news story is Fenix TX is still a band.
Who knew.

2kings (September 23, 2010)

not me

insertnamehere (September 23, 2010)

Who are any of you to diss this band? Im so tired of all the negativity every single time when I read comments. From Fenix to Blink, always negative. They dont care what you say, they are doing what they love and making millions. For once just say one positive thing! I for one, like Fenix TX so fuck off

hashbrowns (September 23, 2010)

while i can defend maybe one or two of their songs, this band has never, is not, and will never make millions. ever.

rebelarms (September 23, 2010)

if they dont care what posters on this site say... why do you?

anarchy_now (September 23, 2010)

Oops, reported you on accident...sorry.

Not to defend the OP or the band, but I think it is interesting that on almost any public forum you see mostly negative, troll-like posts - things most of the posters would not say if they were in a live discussion. Just an interesting internet phenomenon. I'm guilty of it too. I think it wears down on some people though.

totalbummer (September 23, 2010)

I think that if people do not like a band they are mostly unafraid to admit it in a live discussion.

mill83 (September 23, 2010)

oh u madd

givemenewwave (September 23, 2010)

Reel Big Fish gets some guy holding a huge fish, and Fenix TX can't get a picture of River Phoenix? I call bullshit!

hashbrowns (September 23, 2010)

punknews will get a cease and desist.

JayTee (September 23, 2010)

"We got witnesses, 5 er 6 of em."

meathousehoolihan (September 23, 2010)

You lost this time kid, but it doesn't mean you have to like it."

JayTee (September 23, 2010)

"The floorsh on fia... AAANNNnnnd the chair!"

meathousehoolihan (September 23, 2010)

I suddenly remembered Charlemagne. Let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the birds in the sky.

XmeatXdrugsXsex (September 23, 2010)

Omg! i"m so stoked this band is touring!! lollolololololololololololololololol

mc_homes (September 23, 2010)

i like how the original popular lineup reunited to do a new cd for a week before quitting. i remember asking them like 5 years ago to play some of the new music they kept claiming they were writing. they said it was still brewing. i guess this will just be fun nostalgic circus act like the misfits. meh.

hashbrowns (September 23, 2010)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JGQhJV78ao

i was waiting to hear how a studio version of this would sound.

leatherface (September 23, 2010)

that is one empty ass venue.

hashbrowns (September 23, 2010)

the video said it was a rehearsal.

mc_homes (September 23, 2010)

eh maybe this is why they said they couldn't play anything new because their "manager" said it wasn't a good idea. haha

meltingplastic (September 23, 2010)

I'd rather listen to Denver Harbor

likeaparasite (September 23, 2010)

I always liked this band. I'm surprised so many people dislike them. Of the plethora of 'pop punk' bands that seemed to spring up around the same period (late 90s/early 2000s), I thought they were one of the best, yet allmusic criticized them for sounding too generic/derivative of others. I never understood that criticism. I certainly found them much more talented and respectable than Good Charlotte, A Simple Plan, and New Found Glory, all of which are awful, more successful, and make me sad that people look at their music and think it's "punk".

Fenix Tx has a nice balance of fun and serious songs, many of which are very good. There are funny, silly songs like "Rooster Song" and "Apple Pie Cowboy Toothpaste". There are songs that are shallow, but entertaining like like "Phoebe Cates" and "Threesome", and even a few songs that are genuinely touching like "O'Bleek", "Tearjerker", and "Katie W.". They've never been a particularly original and sophisticated band lyrically or instrumentally, but they were one of the more memorable and likable bands I heard when I was getting into punk in the late 90s. I appreciated their humour and sincerity.

I think their stronger songs are at least at the same level as "Dude Ranch"/"Enema of the State" era Blink 182. I only had a chance to see them live once. I think they were at a Warped Tour I went to, and I missed their set because they played at noon while I was still stuck in the damn line. I was pissed. Same thing happened with Suicide Machines. Fortunately I saw Suicide Machines at a club show years later. I heard Warped Tour used to draw band playing times out of a hat back then (although headliners like NOFX had the 'main event' time reserved). I would still love to see this band live.

c-prime (September 23, 2010)

You aren't alone. I, too, enjoy the musical stylings of Fenix TX. "Katie W." got a lot of play on my stereo when I bought "Lechuza" like five years ago, and it still does to this day for the most part. And I remember putting "Manufactured Inspirato" in a video I made when I was 17. I was psyched as shit when their live album came out. I assumed it was the sign of more things to come...and in a timely manner. I was mistaken.

It bums me out these guys can't work out their shit. They reunited for the second time last year (with the original lineup, no less) and in just a few short months, Damon and Donnie exit. I remember reading on Donnie's webpage a line saying that Fenix was dead and would never resurrect - and this was after several comments stating the band were writing songs. 'Course, now they've got this tour (with Will, Adam, and whoever else they've hired, I guess). Frankly, if they've got differences as irreconcilable as they seem, I'd rather they just call it quits FOR GOOD instead of making up, announcing a reunion, supposedly hitting the studio to record, booting Damon from the band for the umpteenth time, neglecting to give any updates, and finally announcing some tour out of the blue (and abroad, no less). I almost feel like I'm wasting my time being interested in their future.

meltingplastic (September 24, 2010)

hence my leaning towards Denver Harbor

hashbrowns (September 24, 2010)

same here bud. their self-titled to me was forgettable but i have grown to really like the melodic half of Lechuza more and more over time. there's a lame half to it with songs like paster of muppets and stuff, but el borracho, katie w, phoebe cates, were all great songs in my opinion. don't stress on why people didn't like them, just like things for why you like them.

VinSs (October 27, 2010)
