Pearl Jam releasing album with covers of Public Image Limited and Joe Strummer

Pearl Jam will be celebrating their twentieth anniversary with a new live album titled Live on Ten Legs. Along with a selection of the band's live favourites, the album will feature covers of both Public Image Limited and Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros. The set actually opens with Strummer's "Arms Aloft" which comes from 2003's Streetcore.

The set is taken from the band's Backspacer tour and the band performed many covers on the run including the Who's "Baba O'Riley," The Ramones "I Believe In Miracles" and "Blitzkrieg Bop," MC5's "Kick Out the Jams," Sleater-Kinney's "Modern Girl," The Stooges' "Search and Destroy," The Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer," and even Devo's "Whip It."

in essence, PearlJam were nothing more than a sloppier louder version of the arena rock they drove off the radio in the early 90's, but as I stated below, they represent a very specific time for me, so I can't hate on them.

I'd go as far as to say the first three albums were enjoyable, of course, they represent the my junio high and high school years, so they'll always have a place in my memory even if I don't listen to them much anymore.

Hmm, generic? No. Muscally, I'd say they do lean towards staduim rock, but not 80's era journey or foreigner more like their idols, the who. I would say that lyrically, they are disqualified from being stadium rock, and the fact that they coldn't give a shit less about booze and tits. I will also state, that at the height of their career they brought bands on tour with them like the Fastbacks, Mudhoney and a (then lesser-known) Rancid. They also, at the height of their popularity, refused to use MTV as an outlet, while many bands who are beloved on this site (I.E. Green Day) plastered themselves all over the channel. I will also forever respect their battle against ticketmaster, even if they couldn't win it.

For the most part I don't mind, save Devo's "Whip It". For some reason it just reeks of the only song people know, if they don't listen to Devo.

I couldn't find the entire list (fuck that website is opaque) but if you must know, I was referring to these selections:
Who's "Baba O'Riley," The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop," MC5's "Kick Out the Jams," The Stooges' "Search and Destroy," The Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer," Devo's "Whip It," and Public Image Ltd's "Public Image"

All of those are extremely well-known songs by their respective bands if not THE most well-known song. I'd assume that a band that forcefully rejected the "radio single" format after their first album would dig a little deeper.

Sigh....what the world doesn't need is more covers of Kick Out the Jams, Sonic Reducer and Blitzkrieg Bop. All of these bands have other songs to cover......unreal. Where is the Fastbacks cover?

That's fair enough if you don't like them, but any similarity between Pearl Jam and, say, Staind is purely superficial. That's like if I were to say that the Ramones suck because I don't like The Offspring. It doesn't make much sense.

Wow. What a boring batch of covers. Could you do something a little more obscure than the same huge rock anthems by the same huge bands you've been covering for ten years already? You play Baba O'Reiley too much. EVERYONE plays Blitzkreig Bop too much. "Whip it" is a terrible representation of Devo's sound. "Kick Out the Jams" is the only song anyone knows or covers by MC5. And the Stooges have so many awesome songs that you have to pick a huge one? Come the fuck on Pearl Jam.
