Against Me! have announced their first US tour of 2011. The band, who recently left Sire/Warner, will be supported by Cheap Girls and Fences on the month-long run.

I don't have a car or a place to stay in Bloomington and I can't really get away on a weeknight because of my job, but you're right I should make more of an effort to travel if it's not coming here. But still it seems weird that they haven't headlined a show here since before their last album came out.

Yes, but I don't think I would enjoy them in that environment very much. It's not the venue or the cost, more the length of the set. I want them to play their own show.

Boy, I know what you mean! Back in the late 90's, early 00's, bands like the Alkaline Trio, Lawrence Arms, and Against All Authority used to play Fort Wayne, Indiana all the time in this awesome 50 person venue. Now those bands don't come around anymore. WHY!?

They used to play Baltimore all the time...I saw them at least five or six times there between 2001 and 2006. I think they even had their tires slashed there by some crusty h8rs!

that's a good question. i don't know a soul who is complete outside of the confines of that city. i don't understand all the hate, i've only been stabbed here once and robbed twice and honestly who isn't a victim of violent crime at one point or another.

I don't know really. I know they played the Catalyst (which is larger) and were close to sold out but it's two shows, so that might limit attendance. Plus it's a monday and Tuesday night. So, I think you'd probably be okay but you may not want to cut it that close, just in case.

I'll have to enjoy them at the Orange Peel instead. I really would rather see them at the Cradle but it's all good. That week is going to be great. Against Me! Frontier Ruckus, and then DTFH!!

Yeah, Cheap Girls and Fences are playing all of those dates listed. I don't know where the solo came from. If you go to Against Me's website it has them supporting everything up to Madison, WI I believe. Cheap Girls is the only reason I'm going to the Fargo show.

So I guess I'll finally be seeing Against Me! I love how Gabes used to be the go-to venue for bands in Iowa City, but now they just get no-name local/shitty bands, while the Blue Moose (and occasionally the Mill) get all the worthwhile concerts.

Im curious as to why theyre playing such small venues. I can't really speak for every city but the Portland and Seattle dates are at 2 pretty small clubs, The Hawthorne in Portland can maybe hold 500 if you stand shoulder to shoulder and I know the last time they came through they headlined the Crystal Ballroom which holds roughly 5000 people. Im not trying to be a dick here but I gotta wonder if its "punk" thing. Gotta play small clubs to keep up the cred now that theyre gonna sign to another indie label. They're trying to jedi mind trick you into forgetting the last few albums and being on a major happened at all.

Yeah, or they're simply rotating how they do shit. Before New Wave came out, they did a small club tour (with Riverboat Gamblers and Fake Problems), then a bigger tour (w/ Mastodon and Cursive), then a smaller tour (w/ Cobra Skulls, Sage Francis), then a bigger tour (w/ Foo Fighters), skip some I don't remember, and before White Crosses came out they did a small-ass tour as well (w/ Off With Their Heads).

I honestly do not have a clue why anyone would complain about such a thing.

Oh yeah, they also did a smaller tour this year with The Menzingers and Dead To Me.

Also, their Sire records may not be their best, but they sure as shit are better than their No Idea / Plan-It-X records.

If you're going to try to be clever and hypothesize about a band's intentions, get your facts straight. The last time AM! came to Portland they didn't headline the Crystal. They were supporting Silversun Pickups at the Crystal. Yes the show was sold out, but that venue holds around 1,700 people, not 5,000. The Hawthorne is a smart move, because they can sell that shit out and have a really fun, intimate show.
