A.V. Undercover 2011 soliciting song suggestions

The Onion sister website and pop culture/entertainment news source The A.V. Club is now soliciting song and artist suggestions for the 2011 edition of A.V. Undercover, where bands are brought in to cover songs from a predetermined list. Whenever a band covers a song, it is stricken from the list, meaning that each subsequent band has a smaller pool of songs to choose from.

The 2010 edition of A.V. Undercover featured such bands as Ted Leo And The Pharmacists, Alkaline Trio, Cursive, Motion City Soundtrack, Rise Against, Coheed and Cambria, Mates Of State, The Walkmen, Cymbals Eat Guitars, and Superchunk covering songs by the likes of Tears For Fears, Archers of Loaf, Jefferson Starship, Pavement, Nirvana, The Smiths, The Replacements, The Cure and Superchunk.

Voting closes on January 18, and the full song list will be announced in February.

I picked Fucked Up to do a cover. I liked it last year but every band was some poppy folky crap and it got boring watching bands that play the same kind of songs every week. And then the Replacements cover wrecked the whole thing for me. I picked Lawyers, Guns, and Money by Warren Zevon or anything by him, Moonage Daydream by David Bowie, and Electric Relaxation by A Tribe Called Quest. And for bands Fucked Up, Mission of Burma, and Paul Westerberg. I'd also like to see BTMI do something too.

I voted. This was a cool series last year. This year could get more punk bands, hopefully. I voted for TGA, William Elliott Whitmore, and The Menzingers to perform.

I'm not sure how seriously they take the suggestions bit at the bottom, but man alive what I wouldn't give to see Andrew Jackson Jihad cover George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set On You".

I picked Fucked Up, Titus Andronicus, and GZA; and Husker Du, "No Reservations"; Wu-Tang Clan, "Protect Ya Neck" and 'Til Tuesday, "Voices Carry." I am totally getting at least one of each.

I second the idea someone had of Fucked Up covering Husker Du. Or. Fucked Up covering Quicksand's "Head To Wall." It really doesn't matter which Husker Du song they'd cover, because I think they could do any one of them justice. "Makes No Sense At All", "Chartered Trips", "Pink Turns to Blue", "Newest Industry"...oh god they could just do a Husker Du cover album and I would love it.

My choices for bands were Fucked Up, Darker My Love, and Asobi Seksu. For songs I chose Quicksand's "Head To Wall", Ride's "Twisterella" and Dumptruck's "Island." I would love to hear Darker My Love cover "Island."
