Tomahawk Chop, Cynics, Kristia Moya (Dead Ringer) and Divided Heaven are among the artists that contributed to the Just A Quiet Evening 2011 compilation, which is comprised of covers of classic tracks from the likes of The Lawrence Arms, Paint It Black, Lifetime, Kill Your Idols and a slew of others.

Not gonna lie, I dig the Lifetime cover. Just shows how awesome that song is in general.

What the fuck is the point of this? "I have an idea, let's have a comp where a bunch of unknown bands cover songs by some generally punk-ish bands that fall on a scale somewhere between 'legendary' and 'at least they have a placecard at Hot Topic'--and Johnny Cash."
TrueBeliever (January 31, 2011)
Looks like they started charging for it, I wonder if that's because they saw it get on Punknews and figured more people would be exposed to it. Kinda lame to change their minds about charging after its been out for a while.

Who decided that Four Year Strong should be on this comp?
thistimeiswear (January 31, 2011)
This is fucking awful. Hope these kids have acquired somewhat permissible licenses to sell these compilations. Also, at least an ounce of creativity can go a long way. I'm really good with Garageband as well.

I put the comp together if you don't like it that's cool if you do thanks that's awesome as well. I'm aware some covers are a bit off I added them as favors for friends, Im not one to hate on the music you listen to. The idea just started because I was bored and was fucking around and decided to get some buds to release a comp but then people caught wind of the idea and asked me to be on it I of course don't care and let anyone be on it because it was a fun thing to do. My aunt is a breast cancer survivor and is part of the mailman breast cancer foundation and asked if I would like to help so I decided to use this as a way to raise money and once we started getting WAYY more downloads then

Officially, I now wish that EVERY acoustic guitar on the planet be smashed to tiny fucking pieces... except Tim Barry's... he can keep his... and occasionally loan it to Chuck Ragan.
onegirlarmy (January 31, 2011)
The thing that bothers me most about the comments is that from my understanding, with every comp I have ever heard, has a large chunk of "unknown" bands on it. There's ALWAYS going to be music acts you've never heard of, so especially in this day and age of over-saturated music being available on the internet, aren't comps a good way to find out about new music?
onegirlarmy (January 31, 2011)
Also, just a heads up about some of these acts since "cred" seems to be where you are all coming from:

idk if it will stay this way but on the bottom of the punknews homepage this story in the "recent popular stories" column reads as "Lawrence Arms, Lifetime, Paint It Black covered on new Sandwiches" because it cuts into a thread on the column next to it. This is possibly the most serendipitously org thing that could have been created on this website.
RondoMondo (February 2, 2011)
LOL @ people bitching. Btw, the Lifetime, Paint it Black, Misfits, and Brand New covers are fucking good.
baronvonfuckyoustien (February 5, 2011)
New Rule No more fucking acoustic covers of songs. It's not bold, its not artistic, its cliche and BORING. and another thing while i am at it, can we tone down the FOLK PUNK genre to about 4 bands. Against Me, Flogging Molly, Gogol Borebello, and one more. You are the new ska music. Why the hate? Remember that Bad Religion Tribute released by SPIN and MYSPACE.COM thats why.. |
