Travis Barker: “Saturday Night” (With Slash and The Transplants)

Travis Barker is premiering another song from his upcoming solo album. The record is titled Give the Drummer Some and is due out March 15, 2011. The song features a collaboration with Slash from Guns N Roses and reunites Barker with Tim Armstrong and Skinhead Rob. from The Transplants.

The album feature a number of guests including The Cool Kids, RZA, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Game, Raekwon, Tom Morello, Slash, Steve Aoki, Pharrell, Clipse, Kid Cudi, Yelawolf, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Lupe Fiasco, Swizz Beatz, Bun B and Tech N9ne.

Excuse me, but you could NOT be more wrong. Travis Barker is doing what Elvis Presley started almost 30 years ago. He is shattering boundaries and transcending genres. This is progress. This is evolution. I could not be any more thrilled with what Mr. Barker is doing here. What little he has given us off this record has blown my mind. The only thing that would make this song more incredible is if he got Roberta Flack to lay down some fat vocals on this shit. Watch out, foo. Dis albums gonna rock your socks!

An electronic trigger is a device that is attached to the hoop or rim of the drum that essentially detects a hit, which then triggers a programmed sound, which is sent to the console/mixer, and then out through the PA system. What this means for drummers who use them is that their hits no longer have to be particularly powerful, as the sensors on these triggers can be adjusted as so the lightest of taps can produce a massive drum sound.

So, for someone like Joey Jordison, or the other metal drummers who use these, their "double kick" hits no longer have to be hard at all. By not having to hit hard, one can generate a great deal of speed, as is typical of metal drummers with ridiculous double kick.

Some people regard this as "cheating", others simply see it as a way of enhancing the sound of the notes that are already there, but would in inaudible otherwise.

tldr; device that amplifies drum hits.

Blink-182's Enema Of The State had like 80 compressed ass guitars layered over each other, vocal effects up the wazoo, keyboard background noises over aforementioned guitars and drums so ridiculously over-produced that of COURSE an entire generation is gonna embrace this mildly talented wigger with clothing lines and tatoos and guest stars as the next coming of fucking Christ.

Strip EVERYTHING you know about the NAME/BRAND "Travis Barker" and you're left with just some dude who kinda plays drums okay.

Yes, that album is very produced. But if you're gonna' tell me that a producer was responsible for the drums (which are, in fact, over the top), you're talking out of your ass. His style may be extremely lame, but the dude is very talented.

The intro to "Mutt". Imagine it not sounding like a million fucking dollars. Same "talent"? How about "The Fallen Interlude"? It's just 2 and a half minutes of basic hip hop beats with like a little fill somewhere in the middle. Who fucking cares? Dude's talented, but no more than anyone else with sticks. Production can often trick impressionable youngsters that they're rock 'n roll gods are more than they really are. To say nothing of his RIDICULOUS public image.

Public image aside, he's a very good drummer. Better than a lot of people "with sticks" and just because there's a producer doesn't mean that isn't true. The drumming on Enema, for example, takes a lot of subtle timing techniques from reggae and hip hop as well as punk and hardcore--that kinda' thoroughness takes years and no producer could have singlehandedly done that for him in the amount of time of recording. I don't think he's a "rock god." I don't even like his style. But as for people looking up to his talent, I see nothing wrong with it besides the fact they're perpetuating a drum style I don't like. He accents the music very well and is a unique and energetic player. But yeah, he is lame.

The guy is a decent drummer. He's very good at the niche stuff he does, but he's a one-trick pony. Whoever it was above who said showmanship is why people like him so much was spot-on.

A time signature isn't a technique; his use of syncopation and accents are techniques of timing. Both of those are very unique and impressive. Yes, he's a one trick pony, but I don't think anyone was arguing against that.

Hip hop was my first love, there's a few good acts on here, and I've always enjoyed myself some blink, but...what's the point? It's cool that Travis loves hip hop too, but come on. I have no interest in hearing a very technical drummer play simplistic beats in a loop, even if it's not actually looped.. It's not like he's rapping or something or wrote the songs.

Travis is certainly a good drummer but many people who simply just dont know anything about drums worship him because he looks so cool when he plays. Take any decent drummer and teach them to look fancy when playing and everyone will worship them. Oh yeah and recently it seems Slash will give anyone a handjob if it helps him promote his own solo record.

If you don't think of that song as a weird hip hop song by Travis Barker, Tim Armstrong, Skinhead Rob, and Slash, and you just take the song at face value, it's really good.

I think Travis is totally overrated, and the drummer from Dude Ranch was far more suited to Blink in my opinion. And Travis is a douche and a half. Having said all that, I really dig the song.
