People on Facebook seemed pretty pissed at Teenage Bottlerocket, telling them they had already bought their tickets just to see TBR. People were also saying that these bands aren't thinking of their fans. Thoughts?
NIVEK82 (March 21, 2011)
Add Chixdiggit to the list, the put up an accounement on FB not so long ago.
StraightToHell82 (March 21, 2011)
Mad props to all the bands that are bailing on this fest.
Skibz777 (March 21, 2011)
Finally, something Weasel can't be blamed for: arrogant, ungrateful bands turning their backs on fans to skirt some minor negative press that will probably be long forgotten by the time the festival actually rolls around. How brave, how bold....how utterly ridiculous. >:(
justthetip (March 21, 2011)
I can understand why these bands would drop off the show, but it's definately not fair to the fans or the other members of Screeching Weasel for that matter. Just kind of sucks for everyone involved that one mans actions had to put everybody in such a shitty position.
drunkwithpower (March 21, 2011)
I think Ben Weasel is a big dick, but it doesn't really make sense for these bands to cancel. It's not like he was ever a nice guy or someone who's actions you could really back. And for everyone saying "these bands will play in Chicago again soon", that really doesn't help anyone who is traveling for this which I think is probably most of the audience. The shows sold out super fast and the last time SW played in the same place it didn't sell out for months.
makeshifty (March 21, 2011)
This lowers my opinions of all of these bands. Would they have dropped if it was two dudes that Ben fought with? Not in a million a years. But because they were women who need protecting (and get to act like jerks without repercussions i guess) Ben Weasel suddenly becomes a pariah. Fucking sexists.
milkplus (March 21, 2011)
um, as much as i understand why these bands would drop out, it's really not fair for those of us spending a fuckton of cash to travel halfway across the world to attend. basically i'm paying to see a weekend's worth of Ben Weasel punching girls? lame.
uncle_leo (March 21, 2011)
Honestly, I'm glad bands are dropping off. Get together and put on a house show or something that doesn't celebrate that ass-butt. I would have done the same thing.
southernlovin (March 21, 2011)
How many times do I need to remind all of the hanger-ons to Ben Weasel that he punched the venue owner a few times as well, who had done nothing to provoke him. Face it, your favorite band is headed up by a huge dick.
drunkwithpower (March 21, 2011)
Someone call the Windy CIty Soundclash guys, I'm sure they could get some of these bands to play somewhere. They has to cancel their fest because of Screeching Weasel.
irish_punk_is_gimmickry (March 21, 2011)
i'm sure he'll cancel the whole thing anyhow. chickenshit is gonna get his ass kicked when he shows his face anywhere....................
pricey123 (March 21, 2011)
What are the chances of fat pulling their new album seeing as everyone hates the guy now
skankinfrank (March 21, 2011)
Somewhere, some day, 10 years from now, a group of high school kids will form a pop-punk band called "Benny and the Cunt Punchers". Then they'll go off to college and major in communications.
d_boons_ghost (March 21, 2011)
I just read this great piece of information on the Wikipedia article for First World Manifesto:
timahelm (March 21, 2011)
Really shitty news for people, who don't necessary care about screeching Weasel and just flying over to see other bands and the whole festival.
party-animal (March 21, 2011)
I kinda sorta start to feel bad for the guy then I remember that a 40-something year old dude put out an album called "Teen Punks in Heat".
mpblows (March 21, 2011)
sounds like Windy Shitty Sound Cash is back on! Jeff and Toby are rounding up all the bands and trying to do a benefit for a battered womens shelter the same weekend, dumb and dumber
sickteen (March 21, 2011)
How many of you are still proudly rocking your screeching weasel tattoos ??
zacsuburbanite (March 21, 2011)
I find it hilarious that so many people seem so shocked and dismayed that a tremendous asshole did something that you would expect a tremendous asshole to do. Someone playing a show with Screeching Weasel is now equated with the widespread support of institutionalized misogyny? Give me a break. Stop thinking you're so important.
NobleStabbings (March 21, 2011)
The top three stories on Punknews right now are all about Ben Weasel. Does anyone else have a problem with this?
el_matt (March 22, 2011)
I guess the bands decided to...
Amoeba (March 22, 2011)
I agree beating up women sux.. but somehow I don't give a crap about what bandmembers do or don't anymore... as long as music is good then they might as well go overboard to play for troops, beat up women, bathe in their own shit or suppot Gaddafi I really don't give a damn anymore...
NeckTattoo (March 22, 2011)
never heard Teenage Bottlerocket before but they have a pretty fuckin lame name
zacsuburbanite (March 22, 2011)
Just in, Ben Weasel has pleaded, "Not guilty by reason of blood-lust"
etcetera (March 22, 2011)
More dudes fightin chicks at SXSW: http://t.co/PtKLAWj Any macho men out there cracking your knuckles and all set to "lay the smack down" on your keyboards in defense of this poor, innocent, fragile girl needn't worry...in contrast to the Ben Weasel incident, this one is acceptable because the guy got hurt.
resident (March 22, 2011)
While Ben made a terrible - and very public - mistake, these comments are absolutely asanine. They really are. He apologized very publicly, as well. The bands that dropped off are proving what? Nothing!
largemarge (March 22, 2011)
here are the facts:
solidjim (March 22, 2011)
Being in a band is for losers...
samiam871j (March 23, 2011)
I will and always be a fan of Ben Weasel and both of his bands! If I was in that position, I would have punched that fucking smelly skank also for throwing shit at me for an entire set. If you can't stand somebody voicing their opinion then don't go to a Punk Rock show! Throwing ice or anything when a band is playing is fucking asinine! This is one of the main reasons that I can barely stand to go to a Punk show anymore due to all of the trashy uneducated assholes!
SBD (March 23, 2011)
I really don't understand what the big deal is. Ben Weasel always has, always will, and always claimed to be an asshole. Why is everyone so shocked when he pulls an asshole move? I'm a girl and often times i mouth off to asshole guys who think they're above everyone else, and i do this solely because i am a girl... banking on the fact that no guy will hit me because of that. Someone needed to shut that bitch up.
guntrafficradio (March 25, 2011)
These bands dropping out of Weasel Fest could use their influence and have Ben Weasel donate some of the profits to an organization(s) that combat domestic violence, bullying, hate crime, etc. What happened is fucked up but it can be channeled towards something positive.
ghostdentures (April 1, 2011)
Goddamn punk is fucking so pc these days. WHO CARES WHO HE HIT! THEY PROBABLY HAD THE SHIT COMING! This isn't the first time a punk musicians hit a motherfucking audience member. Look back at black flag and henry rollins or jay reatard. FUCK YOU POP PUNKERS, GO DRINK YOUR PBR WITH YOUR BEER ELSEWHERE |
