i was always into them, but wasn't nuts about any of it. then i watched them live, and they really, really killed it. that did it for me.

This album is gonna suffer massively from not being "Bon Iver" by Bon Iver.

That good, is it? I'm holding off on the new Bon Iver, but I've only heard stellar things about it.

I haven't heard the new Bon Iver yet, but I'm astounded as to the good responses it's gotten.
Astounded because For Emma was such a shitty, lazy record, and I was offended that he even decided to exist.

It isn't lazy at all. It's super intimate and imperfect, which is WHY it's amazing. He wasn't shooting for incredible. He was shooting for honest.

He's an unremarkable Sam Beam whose only contribution to music is that he's writing and recording the same songs in a cabin.

Yes! Great point.
"Bon Iver" a great album.
"For Emma" is one of the most intimate albums ever created.
The new album just develops the band into a more sustained and powerful force.

I like this album. It doesn't have any standouts like most of their albums do, but it doesn't have any low points either. It's consistently enjoyable.
