Patti Smith to release new greatest hits compilation

Patti Smith will be releasing a new career-spanning greatest hits collection on August 23, 2011. Titled Outside Society, the 18-song album will feature music from her iconic 1975 debut Horses through her 2007 covers album, Twelve.

no diss to Patti Smith, but her "greatest hit" was written entirely by Springsteen, who still continues to perform the quintessential version of it.

Um, I certainly don't hate it. "Because The Night" is a really good song.

Well not all, then. And "hate" is an exaggeration. But I definitely always skip it; doesn't feel like it fits on that album. It may be a good song, but not as far as Smith goes, in my opinion.

Maybe "leech" isn't the best term, but even though I can respect some of Patti Smith's earlier stuff, I think her ego far outweighs her memorable contributions to music. She fell off pretty hard and became a bland cartoon.
