I'd still argue that, even if not musically, Emily Haines has a more punk attitude than a lot of other bands this site goes crazy for. Strong feminist messages in a lot of her lyrics.

I always find 1 or 2 of their songs to be insanely catchy and then the rest just sort of bores me.

"Fantasies" is one of the most unfairly maligned albums ever reviewed on this site, right up there with "Nimrod" and "Making the Road". Just because it isn't punk doesn't mean it's bad. While a lot less rocking than their other albums, it was still full of beautifully textured music with a hypnotic feel, great hooks, and solid lyrics. |
