Tours: Poison Idea

To coincide with the kickoff of their forthcoming reissues on TKO Records, influential hardcore outfit Poison Idea have announced a short run of West Coast dates beginning in mid-October. The first in the series will be Darby Crash Rides Again: The Early Years, an LP featuring some of PI's earliest recordings from 1981-1984, including previously unreleased material. The packaging will include extensive liner notes and previously unpublished photos from the band's beginnings.

You are mistaken. Pig Champion, the guitar player died, but Jerry A, the vocalist, lives on. But, in contemporary news, a former member was arrested for pharmacy robbery a few years ago.

Agreed; to me it's the best synthesis of rock elements into pure hardcore ever put to tape. "Taken By Surprise" and "Just To Get Away" are what classic rock radio would sound like if it didn't suck and "The Badge" and "Welcome To Krell" make me want to punch a hole in the nearest wall.

Definitely time to listen to it again.

Most def going to the Gilman show. I feel bad that their playing The Fire Escape. My band played there recently with about 67 paying customers and they had the nerve to say they lost money on the show, plus no drink tickets or geust spot for the bands. What kind of bar pulls that shit?

I'd say that even flying seems like a stretch, but then I remembered my own lengthy flight from Long Beach to Mexico City was due to reroutes. Still, it seems pretty ambitious, but then again I'm not a seasoned touring manager.

For normal people, probably. All of my own flights are free due to having family in the industry, and that tends to skew my perception of flying since that always means I have to reroute in ways that add many extra hours to my trip. When I flew to Mexico City, I had to go through Salt Lake City and Atlanta.

Considering I save hundreds of dollars in travel and get to fly practically anywhere, it's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make.

It's the time vs money argument. I used to do Southwest a lot because it was much cheaper and was willing to do the extended traveling. Now, I'm happier paying more and just not being on a plane.

I guess I'm stingier with my cash, though when I fly within the United States, it's literally free, so how could I *not* choose that option?

There are times when I can (and have) flown to Seattle, Denver, etc. for a festival or one-off concert, sleep at the airport and go back the next day, having paid only the cost of a cab, a ticket and some grub. It's like, totally punx.

As a kid, Pantera's cover of "The Badge" was the song that really defined what heavy music should be to me. Blew me away when I first heard it as a naive music listener first getting into music outside of my parents. Years later when I found hardcore I had that moment of...finally I've found more music like "The Badge." Of course, those were the days before the internet being so common and had no clue that it was a cover and had always wondered why their other songs didn't sound anything like it.

Pretty much the same, here. Had no idea it was a cover until a couple of years later. For a brief time, it was my favorite Pantera song.
