Hot Water Music, Dwarves, and more confirmed for Pouzza Fest 2012

Montreal, Canada's Pouzza Fest has relaunched their website for the 2012 edition of the festival, which will take place May 18th - 20th, 2012. In addition, they unveiled a few of the bands that will be playing including Hot Water Music, The Dwarves, Classics of Love, Kepi Ghoulie, Joe McMahon, and more. The organizers have also announced a sale for discounted passes, lasting until Christmas.

I'm surprised HWM is back together. If their new material sounds like Fuel for the Hate Game, I'm interested. If not, meh.

It doesn't, at least the 7" doesn't. It sounds like full band Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard songs.

HWM has never put out a mediocre album. Thats why they are still around. Thats why they have one of the most loyal fan bases ever. The epitaph albums were different and more polished sure, but Caution is by far one of the best albums for HWM and of its time.

One of the best? It's a generic pop rock album with extremely forced and radio-friendly melodies. The guitar interplay - their defining feature - is also completely absent. I will say, however, that nothing they released on Epitaph is as bad as Finding the Rhythms. But the band definitely lost something when they left No Idea.

This is an argument not worth having. They never left No Idea. No Idea simply releases their vinyl. Fuel was on Toy box. As for Finding the Rhythms its a comp of all of the early stuff that lead to the sound you love on Fuel. I love the early guitar work, it's what drew me to the band. The later Epitaph albums are different but generic pop rock? Give me a break, I'll save my breath for a real fan that appreciates the band as a whole. The early sound is amazing and full of heart but you cannot deny their growth as musicians.

I'm not a No Idea or Epitaph lover or hater, however, you are inherently wrong: they most certainly DID leave No Idea. They signed a recording contract with Epitaph, just as they have recently with Rise. Those labels license vinyl to no idea, at the request of the band, I'm sure, but don't fool yourself into thinking they're somehow on that label.

Had to check but seems to me the relationship with No Idea never really changed. I am saying they never left No Idea because they have always been signed to a different label who licenses to No Idea.

I was pretty sure at some point No Idea did some CDs, too. Even with that, they were still certainly signed to Epitaph with a different agenda.

for sure. I was just trying to voice my opinion that the epitaph albums were by no means mediocre, just different and more polished. i am looking forward to what could be some of there best work. outside of a major label and after a long break.

They're not "still around." This is, what, they're third reunion?? They play, they peak, they break up, come back, are bigger when they broke up, repeat. If they hadn't broken up so many times, they'd be forgotten about.

couldn't disagree more. they broke up for a period reunited and play whenever they able ever since. with a new EP out and a new record on the way. with 16 years behind them I don't think you can expect them to be on the road non stop like they once were.

They broke up like 12 years ago, then came back, then split up, then came back, then did a hiatus thing and are now doing a new album (which I'm sure they were paid handsomely for).
What's the time have to do with it? Rancid, Dropkick MUrphys, Bouncing Souls, Anti Flag, etc are all bands from, roughly, the same time period who tour pretty regularly.

you are kidding yourself if you think they are going to make a ton of money from a new album. Why are you so hard on a group that you have less and less appreciation for over the years? And then you expect them to tour more? You are lost bud. With hearing Chucks new music and The Ship Thieves album I am looking forward some of their best work. They are far better musicians today, and I love the old albums more than anything.

If you think they didn't get a HUGE advance from Rise, you're smoking crack. For real. Why go with a label like Rise over Epitaph, or Side One or doing it themselves through No Idea?? Use some common sense, please.

I also ever said I expect them to do shit. I'm countering your comment about it being unrealistic for them to tour at this stage in their careers, which it's not. I'm also not being hard on them. I'm being fairly neutral. I like the Epitaph records, but they went downhill. The Draft was a total joke. Ship of Thieves so also totally humdrum. And, their solo projects were that, solo projects in different genres; I don't want HWM to sound like an Americana band, which the latest track certainly hints at. HWM wasn't about musicianship, nor is a complex genre (although Jason and George are a fantastic rhythm section.

Hell yah they got more money. But a huge amount I seriously doubt that. They deserve as much as they could muster. Jason Black even said in an interview they would go for the most $. Wouldn't you? A band at this level really doesn't make enough regardless. I cannot argue this any longer our opinions of there latest work are too different.

Find where I criticized them for taking the biggest offer. I didn't. You're the one claiming they're not making money from the album. You are wrong. They got far more than they were worth, I can assure you.
And what do you mean, a band at this level doesn't make enough money? They make what they're worth. Do you think they're getting 500 bucks for shows or something??

i agree corpse, i think HWM gets compensated fairly well for a show and yer dam right they got a nice advance from Rise. You will not convince this Coleslaw guy yer arguing with, but i think HWM has declined over the yrs. my fav has alway been the Moonpies for misfits EP, that is a stellar, solid release

I have no solid evidence here, but based on some simple math and knowing what some bands their size g get, I'm willing to bet they average around 5 figures, more often than not for shows.

Poison is still around, too. Does that mean they never put out a mediocre album? Five Iron Frenzy just raised $80,000 in 24 hours from their fans after being broken up for 8 years. I guess that means they never put out a mediocre album, either.

Either way, I'm indifferent. They have some good songs, most of the their best material, in my opinion, is their older stuff, mostly from Fuel and No Division. Their Epitaph stuff was pretty weak by comparison, I think.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Caution is their weakest album. A Flight and a Crash is far more interesting musically, and the one after it holds up much better in the middle. The No Idea releases blow it out of the water.

It's gonna be even bigger this year, with the new venues and HWM playing. Shit's gonna get bananas. I'm hoping for more shows similar to the Dear Landlord/RVIVR secret bar show.

I was so tired at that show that I couldn't even begin to think about jockeying for a place in veiw of the band. Thankfully the guitarist from Maladroit was kind enough to come stand on our table for a song.

At least it was a small venue. Maladroit were super fun. That show was probably the best I've ever seen. Awesome venue and really cool people there

There were mutiple announcements of bands from chicago being booked. Brendan Kelly played last year and talked about how much fun he had. Possible Lawrence Arms show?

That'd be pure awesomeness. Brandan last year told me he thought they wouldn't tour anymore as Chris has his life, work, children & such things. But we can still hope!
