Side One Dummy auctions off test presses, proceeds to benefit Big D's Dave McWane

Side One Dummy Records has announced that they are auctioning off a number of their test pressings, including records by artists such as Big D and the Kids Table, The Gaslight Anthem, Chuck Ragan, The Bouncing Souls, Gogol Bordello, The Casualties, and more. All the proceeds from the Big D and the Kids Table auction will go to Big D vocalist Dave McWane, who was recently diagnosed with throat cancer. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from the other auctions will also go to Dave to help cover his treatment.

This is super shitty. Big D may not have been perfect but they were one of my first favorite bands and helped me get into punk. Best of luck.

Me too. I remember being in the 9th grade and making my mom put 'Good Luck' on during a car ride. Once '5 Kids Down' kicked in she thought I was nuts. That song is awesome

Did anyone see the rumors that Refused might play Coachella? I'm really not sure how I feel about that but I don't think I like it. If they did, I feel like it would be a cash grab and totally invalidate everything they said they stood for.

Also, it's really cool that the label is doing this.I'll definitely be looking into some of the auctions

If that does happen that way for the Friday shows, they would be amazing. Refused, The Night Marchers, Mos Def and Heiro on the same day but like i said, i just don't think I can get behind a band reuniting after so many years of "Refused are fucking dead. Move on"

I went to Coachella 07 when Rage played - it was the definition of a hot mess. Very fun, but so gross. Why don't they do that fest in January when Indio gets under 112 degrees for a brief few days?

It's nice to see the label helping out Dave. Big D is one of the band only that would play the warped tour if it wasn't the big nasty cash machine that it is. I kind of hope this rumor is true. I think the Refused are one of those extremely over rated bands, that everyone latches on to a few years after the fact.

The Shape of Punk is good enough to warrant the attention, it was such a huge leap forward from their Victory days as a somewhat bland SXE hardcore band and I honestly think if they had kept touring on that album they would have blown up.

I looked into it a bit and it looks like there are rumors of them playing almost every year. I can't see a band like them doing well in that setting at all. Maybe something like SXSW or something but not a huge outdoor festival

Shit that sucks. I remember seeing Big D in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere upstate NY back in the day. They were opening for 30footFALL who didn't show, but Big D killed it and packed 9 dudes on a 10x10 stage, complete with "choreographed" dance moves, and played an epic set to all 20 of us who were there. Those were the days.... Get better soon Dave.

That's kind of bogus, unless the label is only keeping the bottom line cost.. they're basically exploiting Dave's illness to make money. Think about it, they wouldn't make that money if they weren't doing this auction in his name. Not to discourage bidding at all because it's a good cause but if they're keeping a percentage as opposed to a flat amount that's just dirty and shame on them.
