Media: Hundredth: “Hurt” (Nine Inch Nails cover)

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, hardcore outfit Hundredth have released a music video for Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt." The cover appears on the band's album Let Go, which came out this past September on Mediaskare Records.

I admit I know nothing about Hardcore. I clicked on the link because I like NIN. Can someone explain to me what the difference is between Hardcore and Screamo, Please.

To me, hardcore is Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, etc... not this lame cookie monster metal shit.

the lines are pretty blurred sometimes, so its hard to classify.

i'll just say, screamo/skrams is different in the vocal department, which might be the first thing to notice. then again, some hardcore bands kind of do the screamo thing too, so it's all confusing i guess.

punch is a decent hardcore band that i know some people think of them as screamo. same thing kind of goes for touche amore.

if you really REALLY want to dive headfirst into the world of screamo, i suggest you make an account on the cmhwak boards. (cut my heart with a knife) just don't ever mention "the wave" (touche amore, la dispute, pianos become the teeth, make do and mend) the people who post on that site aboslutely hate those bands. the boards on that site are so very into one specific genre that they know perfectly well on how to differentiate between whats screamo and whats not.

I'm assuming those bands are hated because a) they're better than the other bands of the genre and b) actually play in front of people outside of that scene, so are somehow traitors.

i love all the bands of "the wave". and yeah, they do playa lot. i think most of the screamo bands that board likes are long gone or foreign. lol

There's no way I could listen to 5 minutes of this. If you're going to do a cover in this style, you need to up the tempo a bit. Do something different. Not just the same song but instead with screaming.

I try to be positive, unlike the great majority of Punknews commenters.. But this was pretty horrible.. Coming from someone that's listened to NIN the majority of my life..

Also: Lead singer reminds me of Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys.

Peter Murphy did a fantastic cover of this song, but then again, he's a god. However, Trent, Johnny and Peter each approached this tune from a different perspective and in a different style, bringing their own emotional resonance to the lyrics....I have NO idea what the hell I'm supposed to derive from THIS mess. >:(

It's funny, I think I'd normally hate this, but this song is so good that I can't help but like it. Kudos to you Mr. Reznor for writing a song I even like when someone I don't like is playing it.
