Goldfinger to release new album this year

Ska-punksters Goldfinger have posted a video on their facebook page featuring singer John Feldman recapping the highlights of 2011 and states that Goldfinger will soon begin work on a new album to be released this year. Their last album, Hello Destiny, was released in 2008 on Side One Dummy Records.

I never got into Goldfinger for whatever reason. I guess my friends never listened to them, so I never listened to them.
That said, they fucking KILLED it when I saw them open for Less Than Jake a few years ago. I was pretty impressed with their energy and the general crowd reaction. People were going nuts.
I still don't listen to Goldfinger.

Well, once you get past their derivative music, shameless bandwagon jumping, consistent decline in songwriting quality and the irritating antics of John Feldmann, you can clearly see that the band is actually.....um.....well, they're......yeah.

Even back in high school when I was crazy about ska-punk and Reel Big Fish and whatnot, I never liked Goldfinger's albums all that much exactly because it sounded like the ska elements were all just afterthoughts. I still thought it was decent pop-punk, but my opinion of them just got progressively lower as I kept finding out how they basically walked onto a major label less than a year after forming, how they predictably dropped the ska in 1999, how every veteran touring ska band hated them, etc..

They were far from the only trend-hoppers in the '90s ska scene, of course, but the fact that they're actually still held in reverence by naive ska kids (or as I like to call them, "gimpers") makes me somewhat angry. Smash Mouth was more of an honest ska band than Goldfinger, for Christ's sake.

Most of those dudes were in metal/glam metal bands immediately before starting Goldfinger, as well. Most of their "underground history," was either invented/made up or staged by the major. Dude went on to write hits, errr "produce," the Used, Good Charlotte, Mest, Story of the Year and so on and so forth. And yeah, they were massively hated by most of the bands in the ska scene.

That's when I stopped listening to them. They left all the ska behind for crappy pop punk. But what really turned me off was the lecture from Feldman in the liner notes about how we should all be vegetarian and drink soy milk and shit. The last song is literally called "Fuck Ted Nugent." Ok, Ted Nugent is a douche but really?

i used to be a pretty big fan, but they lost me a few albums ago. i'd be stoked if this turned out to be good. i still listen to Stomping Ground on a pretty regular basis.

stomping ground and hang ups are fun records, but i think they sound to polished to ever go back to that. i know they are both "poppy" records, but that was when they goldfinger wasn't such a poppy band. i'll give it a listen tho.

Wow, I just assumed they quietly broke up after Hello Destiny came out and they barely toured to support it. These guys were one of my favorite bands back in the day, so I'm a little excited for some new material, but I'm not expecting much. They lost me with Open Your Eyes, even though I wrote a review for it that was overblown with praise and poorly written; I never even went back to it after about 2 weeks. One of the most embarrassing things I've ever written, to be honest.

As much as I detest Streetlight, they're practically like The Clash compared to Goldfinger's Simple Plan..or whichever unremarkable and watered-down pop-punk act who've lived well beyond their years, you get the picture.

It was probably the most overused song on the planet that year. I think it ties with "The Impression That I Get" by the Bosstones for most overused ska song ever.
