ugh, don't say your not smart enough. you can write something very simple without having to make it academic. just get your point across in the best way you know how. as for reviewing a post rock album, i always find it best to describe the music using imagery. post rock is tough to review sometimes without saying the same thing over and over, or comparing it to G!YBE, and Explosions in the Sky...
This is because the vast majority of today's "post-rock" is just a derivative, samey pile. I'm not sure how we went from the emphasized experimentation of bands like Talk Talk and Bark Psychosis into the homogenized dull white noise of groups like this, though it's even more offensive that the public somehow thinks this is inherently intellectual music. How the hell does one come to say something "I'm not smart enough to review this"? Who pushes this thought, the media, or the public unfamiliar enough with the genre to not know better?
Here, I'm an idiot, but I can do a perfect review: Just buy a Talk Talk album and wait until the pseudo-intellectual wave of "post-rock-lite" drivel dies out after everyone can't tell one band apart from another anymore. 3 stars.
dude, talk talk's laughing stock is one massive beast and at the top of some of post rocks best of's. i love that record. god is an astronaut are pretty coolio, and i will always love G!YBE. you ever check out that stite, afterthepostrock.com??? it's nothing but post rock reviews and related material. that place is interesting, but more likely a slow melting cauldron scattered through outerspace. so in other words, pretty boring...
Album ruled. I wanted to review it, but I fear I'm not smart enough.
