Rancid, NOFX. Pennywise, Adicts, Briefs to play Punk Rock Bowling

The annual music festival and bowling tournament known as Punk Rock Bowling has just announced the first set of bands playing this year's event. The first five bands announced include Rancid, NOFX. Pennywise, The Adicts and (following a long period of inactivity) The Briefs. Punk Rock Bowling takes place this year May 25-28 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More details can be found here.

Even better, Briefs tour with "ex-Briefs" bands as the supporting acts. I still haven't seen The Cute Lepers, Sharp Objects or Modern Action, and would love to.

haha.....that would be great! Cute Lepers played one year and I want to say both Sharp Objects and Modern Action played last year, but I get both of those bands confused. Either way, that's a great idea!

Seems kinda steep when you used to be able to pay like 25 bucks to see Rancid, NOFX, and Pennywise all in one day and less than 10 years ago

What I find odd is that the bigger a band gets the more they charge for a t-shirt. Example, saw Blink back in '97, t-shirt $10. Took my little sister to her first concert when Bad Religion opened for Blink I want to say '02? Was going to buy her a shirt $25! Social D shirts are running about $30 now...it still costs about $5 to make the shirt...capitalist pigs!

Not to defend capitalist pigs like Blink and Mike Ness, but sometimes that's actually due to the bullshit greedy venues "big" bands play at. A lot of arenas and HoB-type places demand a huge cut of merch sales, so the bands' only choices are to either not sell merch at all or jack the prices up enough to recoup. I've seen bands two nights in a row in different venues with resultant $10+ differences in shirt prices.

The bigger venues(and more sponsored) take a huge percentage of merch sales, and sometimes leaves bands having to pay out, if not, matching the guarantee of the night. It sucks, but i remember going to so many punk shows and t shirts were never more than ten bucks. I remember seeing NOFX on the Rock Against Bush" tour w/ Against Me! and both bands had shirts for 5 bucks

You are correct. As the venues get bigger, the percentages get bigger. Arena bands are paying at least 40% to the venue/promoter. A house of blue is 2-30.

I saw Blink on their most recent tour and shirts were $40. Hoodies $80. They've hit Red Hot Chili Peppers or Iron Maiden prices.

There are few bands in the history of music whose fans are as consistently shitty as the Adicts'. Such a shame, I used to like them but now every time I hear them I'm instantly consumed with violent hatred for punx-n-skinz and it ruins everything.

The royalty rates the Alberta gov't charges oil companies on the tar sands are already ridiculously low. No Canadian government has ever had a problem selling out Canadian interests to American corporations. When the US wants that water, they'll get it cheap and we'll be told that it's "good for the economy".

Obviously I never went to any of them, but I've seen a large chunk of bands from each year individually: three in 1995, two in 1996, five in 1997, eleven in 1998 and four in 1999.

Correctly guess them all and the Skibz will permanently leave PunkNews forever.
