I stopped wearing my bike helmet because I just don't ever fall in such a way I'd ever hit my head in a way it would help me. The only time I've ever gotten a head injury was WHILE wearing a helmet, and I took a car fender directly to my eye socket. Broken ribs, sprained wrists, never even come close to cracking my skull. I'll take my chances. Frankly I think the distraction it causes (fiddling with straps, it's hot as fuck in the summer, etc) is more dangerous anyway.

How is it really odd and random?

H.E.L.L. was started in memory of two people who were heavily involved in the music scene. A few benefit shows have happened in memory of both Kelly and Gordon, and the group also primarily caters to art kids, punks, and other people in the DIY art and music scene in Boston. Ever since Gordon passed away, I've wanted to create something in memory of him... and a compilation was the perfect match. I could get all his artist and musician friends, and his favorite bands, to contribute music and art. It also was an outlet that these people who had lost someone dear to them could create something in dedication to their lost loved ones. Also, it's something that could help get the word out about the H.E.L.L. group and raise some money for them to get more helmets since they aren't cheap. H.E.L.L. basically operates out of Boston's music scene, so yes, a compilation is very fitting.

Also, yes, Converge is on the compilation. That might not be your cup of tea. But if you pay attention to the tracklist, it's extremely diverse. There's hardcore, punk, rock, indie, acoustic tracks, and some stuff I don't even know how to classify. The common thread was they were all people that were friends with Gordon and Kelly, or lost someone else that was close to them, and wanted to help raise money and awareness to help prevent this from happening to other people.

The main problem is that most people don't realize that a bike is considered by most (if not all, I'd have to check but I know this is true for Buffalo) cities to be a moving vehicle. I live 4 minutes from a college and I assume most of the people who go there grew up in the suburbs (as I did) where you could basically just ride your bike however you wanted since traffic volume is minimal and you've got plenty of space on the road, and if not you can hop up on the sidewalk. So naturally, they apply the same sense of biking to the city. Obviously, this is not the case. You have to follow the same rules as if you were in a car.

My personal favorite thing is waiting to make a right-hand turn onto a street while in the lane, and the car behind me being pissed that I'm in the lane. Sorry homeboy. I've got to make a legal right-hand turn as well.
