Media: Cursive: “I Am Gemini”

Cursive is streaming their new album, I Am Gemini. It's set to be released on February 21st, 2012 and is the follow-up album to 2009's Mama, I'm Swollen. The band will be hitting the road in support in February, March and April.

"Happy Hallow" is my favorite. "The Ugly Organ" is my #2.

Happy Hollow is way better than it gets credit for. At least as good as Ugly Organ.

Same here. While it may not have had the same emotion focus that previous albums did, there was something subtle yet powerfully haunting about it that really brought this fictional town (well, based on a real town, but fictional nonetheless) to life. The brass was also really well done.

I think that's why people tend to dislike it as much as the other stuff. I mean the fact that it's more of a concept album and less about Tim Kasher's personal woes. The thing that has always made Happy Hollow stand out to me is just the strength of songs. They're just damn fine, catchy and poignant indie tunes. They're so strong that I don't really get why anyone would choose lyrical content instead.

happy hollow is most certainly not better than the ugly organ. it starts out pretty good, but seriously, tracks 7-11 suck ass.

That used to be my favourite of theirs, but now I'd say the last four are better. They're all so different though, it's hard to rank them.

I've been listening to this since last week... at first it seemed a bit cheesy, the whole space rock thing. Then I took my mind out of the emo gutter and realized it fucking rocks. This is their most consistently energetic album. The guitars are extremely intricate and play off each other wonderfully. The drumming is just fantastic all around. The lyrics aren't as good as their last two albums, but they're not at all melodramatic which is good. The vocals don't hit as many emotional highs (not a lot of shouting), but there aren't as many embarrassing (not to me, but if someone walked in on me with Tim Kasher I might hit pause) falsettos.

This could be their best album... too soon to tell though.

Every album I hear starts as a disappointment before I realise how incredible it is. I'm super excited to hear this. One of the most consistent bands I can think of

Reading the booklet helps a lot. It's a play, and it helps knowing which character is saying each verse/chorus. And having the supporting text.
