Mike Park announces Fun Fun Records

Asian Man Records head honcho, Mike Park, has launched a new record label entitled Fun Fun Records. The record label will focus on child friendly tunes for "their development into super duper great teens and then adulthood." Acts such as Kepi Ghoulie, Dan Potthast, and Greg Attonito / Shanti Wintergate will be releasing material through the record label this year.

This is unrelated, but Punknews posted a story a few weeks ago saying Tony Hawk Pro Skater Hd (http://www.punknews.org/article/45533) would be without the soundtrack but, Tony Hawk said this

Hugo Mudie and my friend listen to Bright Eyes (separately - in different countries, in fact) and I could take neither of them. Actually, I have another, shorter friend that I just assume listens to Bright Eyes that I could probably take.

I am curious how he is going to promote this to child audience. An ad spot on Yo Gabba Gabba, distribute to daycares, etc.

Schools are always looking for good assemblies led by positive people. There are book stores and libraries until they don't exist. Pumpkin patches, Christmas tree lots, art festivals, etc. Actually, this might be a better way to go than starting a band catered to appeal to "grown-ups."

Have you ever heard Ramones for kids, and a few of those other punk for kids albums? They are fun to play for like 2-3 year olds, but hey your guess is as good as mine. I wonder if they going to do cover songs in a new toned down style or create new songs that the kids will love and etc. It a experiment I looking forward to how the songs will come out. Hey Mike you got any kids? If so have you ever played your music to them and some times they just beat there head to the beat, then on some bands they sing along? That is how it works for me, my Minny me has a 30 song playlist of songs he loves to death,and some are for the lyrics,some are for the style of delivery. Like he heard the word Dingbat once and well now loves the Song Dinbat from Screeching Weasel, loves Midnight picture Show by The Teen Idols just for the Intro, and with my pal Joe King, Loves can't stop farting, and Back To The Basement when I say your going back to the basement, but blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i really look to see how this will turn out in the end. I may play again and ask to contribute, be fun.

Doesn't Mike have kids now? It makes sense in that Matt Pryor from the Get Up Kids did the same basic thing for his kids and released a few children's records as The Terrible Twos, or as a shittier example there was a Ramones cover album a few years ago that pair Kidz Bop style kids singing with punk singers (Blag Dahlia is the only one I can remember off the top of my head.) Hell even Voltaire released a children's album a couple of years ago

I'm guessing as the 90's generation of punks and ska kids get older, they are going to want music they can tolerate or maybe even enjoy that their kids will also like.

Well, that's the superficial reason, yet I can't help but feel there's some ulterior motive. Not exactly a money laundering scheme, of course, but something more along that line. Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.

Most Koreans I've met introduce themselves as being Korean, before correcting themselves two seconds later by pointing out that they meant South Korea, which leads me to believe that people from South Korea just plain identify themselves as "Koreans". ...I guess what I'm trying to say is the dude meant those of the southern persuasion but didn't feel it necessary to clarify something so obvious.

I don't see how this is a shady business venture, just doing different music where it makes sense to create a different label so parents know they are getting something kid friendly instead of possibly grabbing an Alkaline Trio album or something that might not be so kid friendly

I really got to say this has me smiling. As a 30 year old punk who has 4 little ones I love to death in my life,this idea is something I always pondered about and glad to see happening. Many people my age or older know when we grew up there was no internet,and if you got into music,or Punk it was because you had a older brother,sister,cousin,a friend,and etc that kind of show you the gateway of what was out there when you where young,and if you fell in love with punk music at a young age after having it introduced to you,and have a love and passion for music, you then began to explore so many bands,see so many shows,then kind of molded in to your own unique self,I said it before and will say it again, there is Punk music then there is punk ideals, and just being Punk, it a life style by choice, and sorry I hate to say it, but real punks are a dying Breed, yes the music may be The gateway,but today it not like before and no need to explain anymore the mature will understand, and the immature will go on with the blah blah blah. . In today's world there is the internet and it is still a work of progress of seeing what it will bring to the next generation growing up when it comes to many aspects of punk music, and Punk Ideals. But I guess my point is that i can see how Mike Park and others who are old head punks understand we are living in a new age and still want to help "their development into super duper great teens and then adulthood."
Anyway great project to start, going to have to contact some of my friends who have worked with Asian man over the years or even others,won't name drop except for if Ryan Rockwell from Mixtapes some how reads this answer me this"Was this not what I asked you to do for my niece who hitting 13?lol" Yes when the mixtapes offered the pay to have a song written in there down time, i wrote the band and spoke to ryan a few times on the fact about writing a song about how my niece should listen to her Unk and explore the world of punk, but blah blah,yes typo's novel.........................Going to contact my fellow old head punks veterans and pass on the news.
