Media: The Mars Volta: ‘Noctourniquet’

Rolling Stone is streaming Noctourniquet, the new album from The Mars Volta, the band's first full-length since 2009's Octahedron. Noctourniquet is set to be released next week, March 27, 2012.

I didn't care for the last two records, but the single they released a few weeks ago was pretty good, if not as appealing as their earlier work. I'm reasonably excited, but I can wait until I'm home to listen to it.

I liked their last two, but after a few listens.
I mean for example from their last one, Desperate Graves, Teflon and Luciforms were just great songs.
And I'm not even mentioning that killer rhytm of Cotopaxi. Ow I just did.
Anyway I'm confident that they're pushing boundaries again, but I'm giving it a try, let's say a try of 5 then I'll decide.

it's like every mars volta album for me(aside from Bedlam in Goliath cause Thomas Pridgen lit the drums up on that album) only after a couple listens does it all sink in

Interesting, because the drumming on 'Bedlam' was my biggest complaint. Pridgen's a good drummer, but dear God, he was all over the place on that album; just non-stop psychotic drumming filling nearly every moment of the record, and not in a good way. The whole album was a cacophony of noise, but the drumming was the most distracting.

i can understand that but that may have been the reason i enjoyed it. the song "Goliath" is nuts. they switch from 2/4, 4/4, 5/4 to 9/8 and him being able to psycho on that and keep it in time is mind blowing. BLOWING!

Nice. Only listened to the first track to leave my ears unspoiled. The Whip Hand is very different but cool. Hard to describe.
