Video surfaces of secret Refused show in Brooklyn

Following their show at New York's Terminal 5 this past Monday, recently-reformed hardcore act Refused decided their night wasn't over and played a surprise set at the Acheron in Brooklyn. Video of the band's entire 30+ minute set has surfaced online.

When I read this, the video was embedded into the immediate article on the homepage. I kinda liked that!

Also, this is the way a Refused show should be; small and crazy. It's a bummer that they're playing Congress here in Chicago. I'd think Bottom Lounge would be a better fit.

I agree, although I understand why it's at Congress. The sound there is absolutely horrendous, but it is the only independant theatre of that capacity in the city. That's why so many larger "punk" shows are held there.

I personally am hoping that since Riot Fest is putting on the show at Congress there might be some sort of secret show at AAA afterwards.

They completely skipped this stage in their career. Being successful enough for people to know./love/go crazy your songs, but still forced to play "smaller" clubs, so I'd imagine this is one of the most fun shows of their entire career.

Out of curiousity, how did people find out about Refused? Personally I caught the video for New Noise on 120 Minutes. Randomly think the same episode had the Get Up Kids and Edna's Goldfish on it. Probably the last time I got found any music through MTV

They were also probably the first modern hardcore band I got into (I had been into Minor Threat and some others before that.) At the time I was listening to pretty much ska or bands who sounded like The Ramones and little else

yup, even though i didn't pay attention until around 2002. I bought Shape of Punk to Come in 2006 and listened through and through.

Saw the "New Noise" and Sick of it All "Potential For A Fall" videos in a gimmicky 1999: Year In Rock special MTV had that Lars Ulrich hosted. Everything else played was nu-metal garbage, but what else would you expect.

I also caught the video for New Noise on TV as my intro to the band, except I think it was on either Loud or The Wedge on MuchMusic. I didn't like it at the time. I went back a few years later and listened to the whole album after hearing a couple of songs played between bands at a show and liked it a lot more.
