Punks in Vegas have posted another set of live videos. The set includes Nothington performing "The Ocean" at Las Vegas Country Saloon, and Caravels performing two songs at Meatheads. The lede in this case is a recording of Laura Jane Grace performing "Black Me Out" while on this past Spring's Revival Tour. That jaunt also included Chuck Ragan, Dan Andriano, Cory Branan, and Nathaniel Rateliff.

I heard them play it in Silver Spring Maryland as a full band, and on the Revival Tour with just Laura. I thought the same thing, but it works incredibly well both ways. Its sort of like Because of The Shame--to me, the full band version and the acoustic version are equally as good.

Gender and occupation, in terms of declaring oneself a specific of either, have nothing in common.

I am going to have to assume that you neither understand the point of an analogy because what you are looking for is a "compare and contrast argument". Since analogy's are used to simplify or clarify complex ideas, an analogy works perfectly for the statement I provided.

That being said, just because someone really believes something doesn't make it true.

It's not like she's trying to trick people into thinking she's a "real" woman or anything. She'd self-identify as a trans woman, something clearly different than just plain old woman, a difference I'm sure Laura is acutely aware of. What she said in the RS article is that she wants to "live as a woman." Get it? The hormones, wardrobe change, and surgeries are ways of making that happen-- it's not some master plan of denying she ever had a dick.

I know the weird feeling you have about calling this person Laura instead of Tom, because I felt it at first, too. I get that she's still pretty masculine-looking, but she's asked to be called something else, and I came to the realization that it's a request that literally requires nothing of you and has no affect on your life. So why not? I mean really, what's so hard about 'she' instead of 'he'?

And please don't claim that you have too much integrity to entertain somebody's delusions or something like that. It sounds really arrogant and lame.

Laura doesn't really care about her anatomy (according to the interview in the Rolling Stone article), she wants to be identified as a women. To be transgender you don't have to undergo any physical changes. It's about perception.

Also, the article is about a person playing a song and says nothing about her gender.

I never really understood what the big fuss about Against Me! was. While I applaud Laura Jane Grace in her decision to come out and be exactly who she wants to be (which is about as punk as it gets), I still think they're kind of a washed up band.
