Two Shot At West Hollywood TSOL Gig

writes us that MTV News (of all places) reported the following incident. At a November 23rd T.S.O.L. show at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood two people were shot. The veteran band was playing with the Adolescents, the Crowd and Los Villains when a dispute broke out at about 10:15. Two Orange County residents, 43 and 37 years old, were shot in the shoulder and jaw respectively. Both victims are in good condition. Authorities are perusing leads and have interviewed the victims, bands and club employees. T.S.O.L. was scheduled to return to the House of Blues on Sunday, but that show has been postponed. A new date has not yet been announced.

Wow...not very often I hear stories about serious violence like this at a punk show. Let's just hope that incidents like this remain isolated.

That shit has been going on in the part of the country for 20 years.TSOL have always been associated with gangs/crews as have a good chunk of those older OC bands. This may be the first shooting at a show reported but it's not by a long shot the first act of extreme violence that's occurred in conjunction with those guys and that scene at all.

it may be something that happens in backyard gigs and hole in the wall dives, but almost never in clubs and with big name bands. I go to gigs in LA all the time in backyards and there's gangsters abound, but I wouldn't expect it at a hollywood show.

the shooter was offstage (stage left) and shot two people during the last song code blue (encore was cancelled due to idiocy). He had an all access pass and was constantly going back stage through the door on that side. He was a tall black male with Dreadlocks just past his shoulders. I can't beleive they have not caught this POS as someone had to know him. I am amazes that he got a gun through security as the metal detector caught a stick of gum in my pocket!

Crap. That is terrible. I can't believe something like that actually happened, now that just gives us another thing to worry about when we go to a show. And to think, before this news, shows were always a safe zone I thought, where nothing could go wrong, it's just a place to have a good time. *****Wuss-Emo-Rock***** P.s. i think youre over reacting just a bit. terrible? yeah. but to think that now you have to worry about this at every show you go to is just being silly. all this terrorism shit must be getting in your head. and besides, shows have never been a place where nothing could go wrong...it's all in your definition though. and ps- if they find the shooters, what are you implying they do to them??

Too bad shit like this has to happen. I know back in the early 80's violence like this was pretty typical at a TSOL show, more so back when they were called Vicious Circle. No disrespect to TSOL at all, I mean they can't control what goes on at there shows and they left there violent ways behind about 20 years ago. Real good bunch of guys. Though I do remeber hearing a story about jack hanging some kid in his garage and beating him with a baseball bat for a few hours back when he was a kid.

No, Jack didn't KILL anyone. He just had the kid in this garage, hanging there and he proceeded to beat the shit out of him with a baseball bat. Then after awhile he got tired of it, when into his house and talked with his family and gave, I think his aunt, a kiss on the cheek. Then he went back out there and beat the shit out of him somemore.

Most likely nothing. Of couse I wasn't there when it happend so I dunno. I know Jack did alot of crazy shit when he was a kid. I also heard another story where he and one of his friends started a band with another girl. Turns out he and his friend only joined up with her so they could steal a bunch of her equipment and then go off and start there own band. Kinda of a weird kid, but if you meet him now he's really a nice guy

Jack's been a rad guy when I've met him. One thing to keep in mind that he's been sober for quite awhile. HOWEVER, punk rock USED to be dangerous and filled with thugs. All those old LA guys could throw down and fuck shit up and were tough pricks. They were fucking crazy. Punk rock used to be a place where folks like that lived, not people who think NFG are really emotional go. God, I wish we could have TSOL, Black Flag, SSD, Jerry's Kids, back into punk rock today. Oh well.

Wow. Any asshole wishing punk/hardcore should should go back to being dangerous again is just plain stupid. I remember the New York scene about 10+ years ago when it was all violence and DMS stuff. The clubs were all getting closed down and it was just lame and stupid. Really, why would anyone want to go to a show worrying if they're gonna get stabbed or jumped or even shot. No one is saying it should turn into thug central, but I am saying that shows are the most tame thing on earth right now. No band in punk rock are pushing any boundaries at all, whether it be physical, musical, political, etc. It's sad. And I am completely familiar with the 90s DMS scene as I am familair with the 90s Boston FSU scene. But are you familiar with the fact that TSOL were a gang band 20 years ago? Also, the NYC DMS thing can only be blamed on the "urbanization" of Hardcore ie, hardcore kids thinking they were in hiphop groups or some shit.
