River City High signs to MCA

River City High, after bouncing around on Doghouse and Big Wheel Recreation, has officially announced their signing with MCA Records via their webpage. The band will commence recording the album starting today in Toronto, Ontario with producer Arnold Lanni [Simple Plan, Our Lady Peace]. The album is untitled as of right now.

see, let me break it down for retards. The post says they are recording their album in CANADA. So, Scott is saying they should not be let back in from CANADA after the album. He never said anything about them being from CANADA. I hope you get it now.

RCH tours their ass off more than any other band I've ever seen. I live in the Tampa/St.Pete area and, within the last 2 years, I've seen them over 12 times and I've missed them once or twice. Any band thats even decent (which I think they're more than decent) that tours like that can hold their own on any label. I know bands that live right here in Tampa and go on 2 east coast tours a year, and play in town 2-3 times annually, if we're lucky. RCH has worked for what they have, I'm sure they'll keep busting their asses and make it.

Unless the new album has a Blink-182/Hives sound, I don't see it very far. And whether or not a band tours their ass off isn't a major concern. (ha! I made a pun. . .I think). As far as I know, bands like Blink, do, at most, 1 tour a year, per continent. And look that them, riches, bitches, and fame. It's all about record sales. And the reason why smaller indies send their bands out on tour is because they may not have the big bucks for a fancy video on MTV or bilboards and such. I am trying hard to think of a Major label band that constantly tours. I can only think of 3. NFG, Finch, and SoCo. Help me out if you need more. ONly one of those bands, in major-label terms, is somewhat successful. I'm an ass, huh?

SoCo and Finch don't constantly tour. And they've also only had 1 album out on a major. look how NFG's first major album did. give them time and those bands could very well have the same number of fans.

SoCo had an album on MCA. Finch did not. And yes, those bands tour constantly. You may not know that because you could be among the DTR-haters. if you check the DTR site, there is always at least 2/3 of the roster on tour.

I mean leaning towards the sound of either band. Garage-rock is very popular now, and so it Blink-182. Anything that has a similar to sound will sell.

RCH is alright, nothing too amazing, but tolerable. And yes, I agree with Wuss here. They probably will sell a few thousand records, but that's about it. This music isn't poppy enough to get little girls all horny.

river city high has been wanted by mca for awhile. mca wanted to sign them on their last record and rch decided not to. now mca must have raised the stakes.

It was announced EVERYWHERE else months ago. It's very very common knowledge at this point. And, yes, MCA tried to buy them on their last record, they declined, and finally signed several months ago. And they didn't bounce between BWR and doghouse, it was practically the same label.

Man MCA is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. No matter how you package a pile of shit, it is still shit. Those guys at Suburban Home know what is up when they did their "I Hate River City High" page. Hopefully they will do another one in their zine/catalog. Friends, we are in a sad state of music when MCA thinks River city High is the next big thing. Just another reason why supporting independent music is a good idea.

There is no punk scene in Richmond. The RCH guys are all well respected in RVA and have paid their dues, just like any of the bands that have become successful out of fist city.

The RCH guys have paid their dues in Richmond. Even though what they're doing musically is different from most of the other Richmond bands, they've got a lot of respect from everyone, ranging from the west end high school kids to the old school RVA punks. And as for the Swingers comment, yeah, i've been there. They don't act any different in there, or anywhere else, as any other person would when they're out with their friends. As for the RVA Punk scene, you seem to quickly forget that Mark Avery was in Inquisition, which one of the best Richmond bands in the past. I still see people wearing the Inquisition patches - even did last night. Perhaps you haven't been around too long here, otherwise you'd know this, and know about "fist city".

Does anyone like this band? I hope not. I saw them with the Impossibles and their music was boring, but with good stage prescence.
