Videos: No Doubt: “Settle Down”

A day after releasing the song, No Doubt have posted the video for "Settle Down." The song is the first single from Push & Shove which is first studio album in eleven years due on September 25, 2012.

This isn't the No Doubt I remember from 1987. >:(

Speaking objectively as an occasional pop fan and not as a jaded internet punk rocker, though, this actually isn't all that good. It doesn't have nearly the drive or punch of their previous singles, and it doesn't even have a decent hook. I'm still curious to see exactly how badly they'll try to incorporate ska back into their sound, but I have absolutely no high hopes for this album...and, seeing that I'm the stubborn idiot who's championing Green Day's next offering, that's saying something.

I agree. I have the same feeling. I dont think I had expectations, but I still feel a bit let down.
no hook, and the energy didnt feel right to me, especially as a lead off single

Thank god the video has some set up. With the song just being 5 minutes, I didn't think they'd have time to tell the story they really wanted.

maybe i'm a lil late to the party, but this band wears a lot of makeup. comparable to AFI. single sounds exactly like i thought it would, this what they sounded like when they broke up a few years back.

It's not a terrible song. It just holds no appeal to me. Far too poppy and shares no similarity to the No Doubt I love. Still, unlike Skibzz I'm more likely to pick up this record than the new Green Day.

You'd figure that with millions of dollars at your disposal to make an awesome record, you would make an awesome record. This is just not a well written song at all. And why are the instrumentalists even in the video? Might as well just be a dancing Akai MPC on there.

This is quite obviously live instrumentation, albeit quite heavily processed (to make it sound "dancehall" or whatever they're going for). Even that break at the end is re-recorded. The dub effects sound awful, that's what you get for using authentic gear.

I wish it was all mpc, that'd sound awesome - mainly because it wouldn't be limited to sounding like No Doubt.

This is probably my favorite No Doubt song, from the 1988 'Skaface' compilation. I believe it was their recording debut, but I might be wrong about that. They had a handful of great stuff back in the day, but they lost the plot when Eric left.
