with this update from Fat Wreck Chords "We have the final news regarding the tragic death of Jim Cherry this past summer. Although it was earlier reported that Jim's passing came as a result of substance abuse, the autopsy revealed that Jim's system was clean at the time of his death. Jim had a life-long heart condition which ultimately resulted in his death on July 7th. His family informs us that he suffered from hypertension and arrhythmia; and it was major blockage of an artery that eventually took his life while he was asleep. Jim was a big part of the Fat family as well as a member of
Strung Out, Zero
Down, and Pulley, and he will always be remembered for his passion and songwriting. He is greatly missed..."

Fucking terrilbe man, I remember when the tragic news of his death was posted in the summer. I drove to work listening to Zero Down and thinking how awesome the band was and that they never will get the credit they deserve for how amazing that album is. I live in the town (a shitty town unfortunately) that he lived in and a guy I knew worked with him at Carpet Time and said he was a cool guy, but I never met him. I always liked Zero Down better than Strung Out, which I never really got into. But, I'm really wondering if they laid down any demos for a new album before his passing, I know they had plans to, but I'm not sure if they ever started. If so, it'd be cool to hear them.

Man Zerodown was the best thing to happen to the Fat roster at that time. He also helped in making Pulley's classic "@#!*", my favorite. RIP Jim. We miss you fella. Ramo 1+ Reply

as much as its incredibly hard to break a drug addiction, the guy had to be fucking stupid enough to start it in the first place. if his death was infact drug related i have very little sympathy for the guy if it was his heart, then it sucks.... but if it was the drugs, my feeling is that he committed suicide (which can never be justified) 4+ Replies

Fuck you hardline kids. So he did drugs? Do you know what drugs do to you? If you don't, then shut the fuck up. A man is dead, a man who gave alot to you shitty little fucks. I met Jim and the rest of Strung out ages ago at this little dive in NYC, they were all great guys. The music was good, stop bring up his past demons. Let Jim RIP thanks bro

Everybodys got their own personal demons- you people need to QUIT bagging on Jim. So he did drugs....so what! I don't, but that was his issue, I've got my issues too, and you'e got yours. You people need to check yourself before you type shit. You're all just little "armchair warrirors" with atleast 10 lbs of excess weight who think they know what's good for these people who go out and put it on the line. Instaed of bitching about someone elses demons why don't you try to remedy your own. If you say you have none you're a fucking liar!

If you don't do drugs, that's your thing. I DON'T and NEVER HAVE, BUT I also think that coming from somone who is obviously scared out of their mind to try it (and don't try and tell me otherwise, I won't believe it), you don't deserve to have an opinion about the people that do drugs and I'm talking about judging people not your drug philosophy, those are your views. Anyone who knows anything about psychology knows that drugs make you feel good, and your brain gets classically conditioned to using them because it provides rewards. Its something to be pitied not thought of as "I'm so much better than you, I don't do drugs." Drugs make you feel VERY GOOD. That's why people do them. Just because you don't do them doesn't make you better than anyone you self-righteous bastard. 3+ Replies

some of you guys are stupid assholes. yes, i agree, using hard drugs is not an intelligent thing to do, but why act like you are superior in any way to people that use them? people fuck up, people get in over there heads and get trapped in the cycle of addiction. how does that make them stupid or bad people? spare me your self-righteous, uninformed rhetoric here, please. wait until someone you know or love becomes addicted, just fucking wait. let's see you tell your best friend that he's an idiot and deserves to die. "the one who repects stupidity should be reguarded as stupid themselves" we aren't respecting his drug use, we are respecting him as a musician and as a fucking human being you heartless bastard.

everything kills you. everyone dies. this person happened to have died before his time. if you ever have a heart attack or die some death before your time, i'll make sure to laugh at your death because you drink alcohol. i hate drugs but i still have respect for this man. i have fucking good reason to hate drugs and i still don't talk shit about jim. you're just a fucking holier than thou prick.

Good God! Jim Cherry was such a noble, versatile human being and his stuff in Strung Out and Pulley was just phenomenal... There's a huge void in the punk world now with his passing, unquestionably... | Features
